Topp hotell på Madeira
Veldig bra opphold! Her var alle aldersgrupper.
We stayed at the Vidamar hotel for three nights in march 2023. On a positive note, the direct sea access is a clear strength of the hotel, also the sea view from the rooms. Also, many items at the buffet were really good, the choice was great, and we generally enjoyed the food at breakfast and dinner. So, food wise a good experience. Finally, the housekeeping did a good job, and the chefs at the buffets were particularly friendly and welcoming. Despite the positives, the key weakness of the hotel is that a renovation is overdue, and many facilities appear worn out, both in terms of the rooms and the resort itself. Many facilities are also not of high quality, such as the chairs at the restaurants or the plastic sun loungers that certainly do not contribute to a 5* experience. This also becomes apparent at the main buffet restaurant, which really has the ambiance of a giant canteen, unfortunately. The pool and sea area are also not very beautiful, basically, it is concrete everywhere. Generally, I would say the hotel is a solid 4-star hotel and a good mass tourism hotel rather than a “true” 5* hotel, as one might expect. I would say the hotel can be a reasonable choice if you don’t mind if the hotel is worn out, if the sea location is important to you, and if the price is right.
I found the hotel lacking in many ways to be of a 5* standard which I found disappointing. Some services are not communicated well, for example, the hotel provides toppers for the bed as I found the mattress really uncomfortable (hard) and that there is a separate menu available for vegetarians in the Ocean restaurant!! I enjoyed having meals in the italian and espetada restaurants though.
Great Return Visit.
Return visit (last stayed pre-pandemic) and was not disappointed. Lovely big room (336, I think), huge bed, loads of storage, amazing view. Staff all helpful and incredibly efficient. Loved the prosecco with breakfast and Carolla, the cheerful lady who made amazing omelettes. Food was top class, with the exception of some tough beef and meals at Mamma Mia were delicious. Disappointed by the traditional Madeiran restaurant, both service and food not up to the high standard of the rest of the hotel. Indoor pool area was a bit tired but water was warm and it was never busy. Grounds were beautifully kept. A shame there is no longer a free minibus to Funchal but buses are close by and it is not far to walk. My husband was delighted by cake, message and fizz in our room on his birthday...many thanks, it was special. Highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return. Also close to Hole in One pub with live music every night.
