Topp hotell på Madeira
Veldig bra opphold! Stor rom med sofagruppe, stor balkong med utsikt over havet. Rolig, kun bølger som høres. Vi sov med vindu på vidt gap og så rett ut på havet når vi våknet. Veldig hyggelig betjening i resepsjonen, de ga råd om turer, bestilte for oss, skaffet bussrutene oss. Rent og pent over alt, og bra mat med store buffeter og tilgang til ulike restauranter. Her var alle aldersgrupper. Vi kommer gjerne tilbake hit.

Særdeles forekommende ansatte, stort rom med sofagruppe, lekker beliggenhet, balkong og utsikt til havet, god og allsidig frokost, mange fasisiliteter, spa, svømmebasseng, rene solsenger med kritthvite håndklær. Passe avstand til sentrum av Funchal, en god gåtur, altså. Hit vil jeg komme flere ganger:-)
A mixed bag of excellence, and quite dire catering.
In a hotel this big, you tend to be a bit anonyous. The hotel is well positioned and overlooking the sometime choppy Atlantic. our room was functional, rather comfortable, although we were impress with just how large the bathroom was ( and the size of the tub). Very nice balcony, that had the hot sun most days - and in November. The front office were great - very helpful, very professional and eager to help. The chambermaids and cleaning staff were excellent. Catering was a real let down, whilst Breakfast was just on the acceptable side of mediocre, the dinning experience was truely awful. Such was this quality of food items, and the organisation of the restaurant we ate out 6 out of 7 nights, and we werehalf board. This was a disappointment to us, but it was the bars that were worse, with bar staff unwelcoming and unhelpful to the point of complete indifference - we went in once only. One of best aspects of the hotel is its location just minutes from a number of useful shops , a well hidden shopping centre and the Lido pools as well as a varity of excellent restaurants, thankfully.
Mostly good!
We stayed for a week and everything was mostly good. Reception and restaurant staff were very friendly. Breakfast was consistently good and we were pleased to be able to swap our half board dinner for lunch at the pool. The Mama Mia restaurant was excellent and great value for money. We moved from our original allocated bedroom due to issues with the bathroom - it was very dated with staining/mildew around the bath, shower door and sink. Unfortunately this meant we lost our upper floor sea view but I can’t fault the way the staff dealt with it and the newly refurbished suite was lovely. Cons: 1. You have to pay for water. Most hotels now have water dispensers but this didn’t and tap water wasn’t an option. 2. We asked at reception for some ice and were told we’d need to order through room service and pay €5. So we went to the lobby bar and asked the barman for some - unbelievably he refused us even though we could see he had plenty so we had to go to the dining room where they happily gave us a whole bucket of it. 3. Getting down to the pool is a bit of a faff. You have to take the lift down to level 1 then walk down a long corridor and take another lift down 2 more levels to the pools. There’s nothing much than can be done due to the setting of the hotel but you can’t just easily ‘pop’ back to your room. 4. This is a smart hotel but the public areas lack atmosphere and have a corporate rather than luxury feel. Overall a pleasant stay.
WATER: Please can you supply FREE water at meal times, it’s a common thing elsewhere and would be so appreciated by all
Had an amazing time & will be back in 2024. But PLEASE can you serve FREE tap water at meal times, it aids digestion and is a common curtesy everywhere else, so sad that we are expected to Buy water at every meal. We felt very embarrassed when we asked 2 waitresses for tap water and they returned with a bottle already opened then asked for our room number, most hotels restaurants etc will gladly supply Free tap water in a jug at No cost, it’s such a shame that this hotel chose Not to do this considering they are such a wonderful hotel. & cheap teabags in the room are a NO NO they completely spoiled the tea tray and had No place in the room at all, can’t recall if there were biscuits but that is always a nice touch; especially when you first come to your room and want a hot drink and a nibble on a biscuit!! Also a small reminder about more clothes hangers, I think there was about 6 for 2 people for 1 week, not nearly enough. Anyway everything else was exceptional, the choice at the ocean buffet was superb, if you cant find anything to eat then you have a problem, the choice is out of this world and the salads were ALWAYS fresh and bountiful with fresh Olive oil too yum yum !!!
