Topp hotell på Madeira

Veldig bra opphold! Stor rom med sofagruppe, stor balkong med utsikt over havet. Rolig, kun bølger som høres. Vi sov med vindu på vidt gap og så rett ut på havet når vi våknet. Veldig hyggelig betjening i resepsjonen, de ga råd om turer, bestilte for oss, skaffet bussrutene oss. Rent og pent over alt, og bra mat med store buffeter og tilgang til ulike restauranter. Her var alle aldersgrupper. Vi kommer gjerne tilbake hit.

Supert!

Særdeles forekommende ansatte, stort rom med sofagruppe, lekker beliggenhet, balkong og utsikt til havet, god og allsidig frokost, mange fasisiliteter, spa, svømmebasseng, rene solsenger med kritthvite håndklær. Passe avstand til sentrum av Funchal, en god gåtur, altså. Hit vil jeg komme flere ganger:-)

Very good overall, only a few niggles

I stayed at this hotel while on a Riviera solos tour group, so I got a lovely double room all to myself! We were half-board, and the set up with the 2 restaurants nearby for dinner is a great idea. Firstly, the positives... The bed was comfy. The room was spacious, and the fridge handy. Good hot powerful shower. Lovely view! The food at breakfast and dinner was superb - ample choice to suit all tastes. I especially liked sampling all the fish I would never have at home! Public spaces were clean and tidy. My room was always left well by housekeeping. Helpful polite staff. Personally, I wouldn’t have said this was a 5* hotel because of the little niggles that I encountered... In the room, there was only one usable double plug and this was low down between the sofa and the bedside table. So, if I wanted to use the kettle I had to bring it over onto the bedside table to boil, then bring it back to the TV table to make my drink. USB charging points would be ideal, and aren’t a modern amenity anymore. In the bathroom, the toilet paper felt like that of a public toilet! And the mirrors....didn’t know I needed to see quite so much of myself! At dinner, a few more labels on the desserts/cheeses would be helpful - luckily I have no allergies or strong dislikes but it’s just nice to know what you’re eating! Also at dinner, I was told I could not have tap water. I know in the UK it is law to have tap water available when serving alcohol, and I know they want me to buy a drink, but personally I like to have water with my meal and then go to the bar after. Not even a jug for our table though? I was a bit disappointed the indoor pool at least was not open earlier in the morning, as it was not supervised anyway, and this meant I couldn’t have a morning dip before breakfast - something I like to do on holiday. The pool times were also not clear - reception telling me different to the book in the room. The jacuzzi down there was tepid, meaning I didn’t really want to sit in it for long at all. I remember reading on their website before going that there was a gym with classes, possibly even some dance classes. I was so busy with the excursions that I forgot all about it until a few days in. I realised they hadn’t told us anything about this on check in so I asked at reception. They gave me a booklet with the class timetable. No info on the tennis court. With a large group all waiting to check in I understand why the reception staff couldn’t tell us everything about the hotel. There was an online info pack accessible via QR code, which would’ve been helpful for us, and the staff, to tell us about on check in. I mean, there’s a diving centre which is only advertised by the pool! I did really enjoy my stay here and wished I could’ve been here with some free days to enjoy some more of the hotel’s amenities.

Funchal fun

Stayed in room 631 for a week, spacious and well maintained although aircon is a little weezie on occassion, all rooms have sea views and ours was quiet. We stayed on a half board dine around basis, food and service standard very good the ocean restaurant was buffet service for breakfast and dinner, plenty of choice. Mama mia and the portugese restaurants both good too with a limited but acceptable menu for dine around guests. The sun bathing decks at the hotels sea fronts are extensive, no problem with sunbeds but the pools are unheated so a little breath taking on first entry. You can also swim in the sea off the hotel piers, lifeguards are always in attendance. The lunch restuarant by the sea is also good quality...you can swap evening meal for lunch on dine around..lovely prawns. The spa is ok, usual sauna steam and shower rooms with jaccuzi pools...a bit hot but worth a visit if the weather isnt good. Hotel is about a half hours walk from the old town centre, the yellow bus circular tour stops outside and is worth a go to see everything in and around funchal. We were abke to keep our room until 5pm (usual check out 12) for 50 euros. So overall a lovely relaxing week in a smart hotel.

Cyds Birthday

This was a holiday for my daughter, Cydney’s, 26th birthday. We had a wonderful time. The hotel is fabulous. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a huge bathroom, a balcony & a wonderful view. We were even given a bottle of wine in our room. All the staff were lovely and Simone shone out as someone who is friendly, knowledgable & helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect, we walked a lot, into town one way and along the coast the other way. The beautiful pool area, pools and sea access is amazing. We loved all the facilities, especially having access to the big gym and classes. Everywhere was very clean. The food was very good with an enormous selection to choose from. We went to the Mamma Mia Restaurant for my daughters birthday and the staff were just lovely. They remembered it was my daughters birthday and surprised her with greetings, cake and champagne. The food was top notch too. The only down side of the restore was that the bedroom furniture is a little tired (but very nice and functional) and there is a low resonating sound at night that is not continuous but a little annoying in the very quite of the night. Also, because the hotel is so huge, a few extra signs around the place to direct us hotel residents to places would be nice. I couldn’t find the indoor pool and noticed another family couldn’t find it. Maybe have a large plan in the foyer of what’s available nearby, on foot, and have a running route from the hotel.
