Topp hotell på Madeira
Veldig bra opphold! Her var alle aldersgrupper.
Excellent Hotel in a great location, spotlessly clean, great facilitys ,friendly, professional staff. My only complaint would be the wifi, which definitely needs improvement. Would definitely consider revisiting.
Lovely stay and would recommend despite some cons
Reading the reviews before we stayed at the Vidamar presented me with a conundrum - do i book this hotel or not? My review will hopefully help you decide. For the price i would say it is great value and you will have a very enjoyable stay. We are mid 40s and have stayed in lots of hotels and this is not the worse and not the best. I concluded the pros outweighed the cons Pros Excellent Location - access to supermarkets, plenty of restaurants for lunch/dinner, bakeries, buses, 25 mins min walk to Funchal (mostly flat). Pestana grand, Melia a little further out vs Vidamar and Cliff Bay next door. Some hotels were only 10 mins from Funchal, but we liked the Vidamar location and a small shopping centre 25 mins walk the other way (Rituals, Pull & Bear, sports shop etc and air con:-) Excellent gym - running machines, weights, bikes, bosu balance, kettle bells, benches list goes on. Superior room - large, comfy bed, kettle, safe, fridge, plenty of mirrors and sockets and inmaculately clean Amazing Sea views from balcony (6th floor) Buffet - great choice esp the salads:-) dont agree re bland - different fishes: fresh prawns, cuttlefish, seabream, meats, veggies Breakfast - perfect - porridge, fruit and nuts, yoghurts, cereal, hot food, pancakes, doughnuts, waffles, omlettes etc. i loved the roasted apple and pear on my porridge! Lovely spa and shout out to Carla - treatments spaced apart so you barely see anyone else and friendly staff - def make most of the spa pool Great bar - friendly, great choice of tasty cocktails (better than the hole in one opposite watery ones and no more expensive at hotel) Cons Hotel is large and clinical - Decor very grey, felt like a hotel i would stay at for a work conference, but it is smart and spotlessly clean so it grew on me Pool area - large pools, but zero atmos, not idyllic - not for us Dated Bathroom - two sinks/bath, overhead shower useless, used handheld shower which worked, but had to hold. Service good - do not expect Caribean welcomes. It is a large hotel so staff interaction is impersonal. The spa, bar staff and our cleaner were friendly. Most locals and hotel staff, but not all seem generally fed up and barely smile. Does make you wonder.. Food - Little details of contents in food - i asked about egg in desserts and they did tell me tho:-) if you have allergies you may struggle Hotel is reactive not proactive on information - prepare to be curious which we are - no explanation on arrival in restaurants, entertainment?, indoor pools - oh yes they do have two in fact. Restaurants - two you can book: food is good not amazing, prefer Mamma mia (more choice), and atmos casual with bright lights, rather than romantic and special hence the con. Recommend Sushi by Gavinas on the Lido 10 mins walk away for a change for lunch and the Boutique Lido Bakery too for cake/coffee/lunch and friendly service - was our go to:-) Portzo Moniz tour worth it too to see the island, swim in the pools if you want and do the skywalk.
Great hotel with terrific views, tasty food, & great pools!
Enjoyed a wonderful stay, that included my birthday, at this hotel which also boasts, and lives up to, amazing ocean views! The room was clean & comfortable, just don't get overwhelmed by all the mirrors in the bathroom. I was surprised with a birthday dessert, which was not just a piece, but a full cake, along with a bottle of champagne, for my birthday! This all helped to really make my time in the beautiful city of Funchal, that much more memorable! Restaurants on & near the property were tasty & very accommodating. The infinity pools are very clean & there are plenty of loungers with umbrellas to relax on, while taking in the majestic Atlantic Ocean!!
