Amazing family vacation

We had an excellent stay at Lyttos Mare with our family. The staff are top notch and do a wonderful job. The kids club and animation team were great with our children. We all raved about the food as well, and this all-inclusive experience was really memorable. The property is very well kept, and it is managed very well. The employees take pride in the place and seem content which is very important. The entertianment was fun but it would be great to have nightly entertainment in the pub in the form of live music. I highly recommend the Lyttos Mare and we hope to return. The only downside is the hotel has the scam Euronet ATM machines that charge exorbinate rates for taking money out under the guise of dynamic currency conversion. Go to the sister property to use the regular ATM there.

Friendly staff and superb food

We spent a week at the Lyttos Mare and had a great time. We found the majority of staff very helpful and friendly. Staff in the main bar were great and very attentive even during busy periods. The cleaners do a fantastic job as well, coming back to a clean room with new bedding every day was great. The food was excellent, we particularly liked the Thymari Greek Restaurant with its amazing fresh produce and grill, it also seemed to be a lot quieter than the main restaurant. The Asian restaurant was also excellent although you have to book at least one day in advance. The biggest let down of this resort is its location. There are very few bars, restaurants or shops in the area so it means you are more limited to the restaurants in the resort itself. The nearby village is very quiet, only a few houses with one or two bars/restaurants which were not open when we walked through around 19:00 one evening. The closest bigger town is Hersonissos to the east. It is your typical tourist town with a strip of bars and restaurants as well as tourist shops and costs about 10 euros in a taxi. However, old Hersonissos was a lovely wee village, it was very small with only a few places to eat and drink but had a much better atmosphere than the new part.

Great resort, with a few tweaks could be exceptional!

I'm literally just back from this resort in Crete and a thoroughly great time was had by all! We travelled with my wife, daughter (7), brother, his wife and 2 boys (4 and 7) for a week and arrived back in the early hours of this morning. Overall, this place is brilliant! Spotlessly clean, great facilities for kids, right on the beach, spacious modern rooms, nice food and generally, the staff were pleasant. However, (and there's always a 'but'! :-)) with a couple of tweaks, this resort could be exceptional and warrant a 5* review. Firstly, the pools (both indoor and outdoor) were freezing cold and extremely salty. Having a dip in any of the pools was like an extreme cold water endurance challenge and certainly not for the faint hearted or for any length of time. This was a disappointment for obvious reasons but we didn't let it detract from our overall positive experience too much. There were also a good number of 'less than friendly' staff that we encountered on a regular basis. I'm putting this down to it being the last week of the season and many may have been tired but even so, that should not be a reason for being overtly miserable or rude on the odd occasion. The main culprit was the chap behind the bar in the outside (central bar) - middle aged with a little quiff of hair at the front - sorry, didn't hang around to catch his name! Approaching him was like playing a game of Russian Roulette - one day he'd be happy and smiley, the next like a bear with a sore head, visibly rude to other staff members and paying customers. From that point onwards, we avoided walking on eggshells when ordering anything from him and opted to be served by the other consistently friendly staff members. Four staff members that really stood out to our whole group as being an absolute delight to see whenever we encountered them were: Giorgos - the main barman in the lobby bar! What an absolute gentleman and all round lovely guy!! He is a true asset to your resort and a big reason for our experience being so positive! All the best with your olive harvesting Giorgos over the colder months and try to get some rest!! :-) Kallia - the blonde waitress we encountered in the Asian Resto, again, always a smile on her face and nothing was too much trouble - she brightened up our days whenever we met her! Michael - the chef at the Asian resto. What a nice chap and extremely talented in the creation of culinary gold he served to us on a number of occasions! The young lady that worked in the Street Food café next to the beach with long dark hair - sorry I didn't catch her name! Although quite shy, had a heart of gold and nothing was too much trouble! Thank you all! Few tips I'd suggest for travellers heading to this resort - taxis are quite expensive. We paid just under 50 Euros for 2 taxis to travel less than 10 mins return to the nearest small town. We later learnt that if we wanted to get to Heraklion, a return taxi ride would have cost 90 Euros - and we needed two for our party of 7! Instead, we hired a 7 seater for 100 Euros for an entire day from the hire car chap in the lobby and hit the road to explore the entire northern coast line - highly recommended as we had a great adventure! Thanks again for the recommendation from Giorgos to head to Rethimno - beautiful scenery along the way (1.5 hours by car), when we arrived and amazing local food too! Sun loungers were the best we've ever had, 4-5" thick padding and a good number of huge double bed style loungers that could accommodate 3-4 people each - brilliant. The water park and kids playground were a big hit with the little people and not so little dads! :-) Overall, we loved our stay at the Lyttos Mare Exclusive Resort and may consider returning again one day. With a few tweaks with the pools and attitude adjustments of a few staff - this resort has everything you could ever need for a phenomenal family holiday.

Holiday

We extended our holiday to Lyttos Mare and booked directly with the hotel - Stella on the reception was excellent and ensured we could get the room we wanted. It’s certainly 5 star and we’d come back for sure. The food is good quality and fresh with lots of variety. I did think the steak house was a little overpriced for the quality and it could be a much better place given it’s location. The whole hotel is immaculate even at the end of the season. The attention to detail is very high and the cleanliness is very good.
