Excellent hotel with lovely views

Stayed here as part of HF walking group. Hotel is welcoming, very clean with excellent facilities. Lovely pool area with lovely sea views & amazing sunrise & sunset. Staff efficient, very hard working, but still professional & friendly. Well appointed, very clean room (401) with comfortable bed, balcony & lovely sea view. Food: enjoyed buffet breakfast & evening meal each day. Plenty of choice, well cooked & delicious. Would def recommend & stay there again.

Lovely staff, very clean, good facilities

Very nice hotel with a beautiful sea-facing pool and good facilities. We haven’t stayed in many resorts like this before, but this time we were travelling with a baby, so convenience was key. We found all facilities to be in excellent condition and the breakfast buffet especially impressive. The whole complex is spotlessly clean. There are a few different restaurants on-site which were also very nice and all welcomed our baby (although a note to other Half-Board guests: they can fill up quickly so it can pays to book ahead). The gym is a decent size and has plenty of equipment and facilities. The bus to Funchal stops right outside the hotel but otherwise you will need a car to get around the island from Caniço, so bear that in mind. Special mention has to go to the Galosol staff who unfailingly were extremely friendly and attentive, and saw to our every request. The special birthday breakfast for one of our party was especially appreciated. On a side note, the hotel is a very easy 10 minute drive from the airport but taxis somehow charge around €23 for this?! Thankfully Bolt has now launched in Madeira - do yourself a favour and order your airport rides through that app, if you catch it at the right time the exact same ride could cost less than €10. No hesitations in recommending Galosol to others looking for a relaxing resort holiday on Madeira.

We had the perfect vacantion here!

The view, frinedly staff, diving area and breakfast made us loving every minute of our Madeira getaway. We had an incredible view of the ocean and the staff quickly helped us with everything (including renting a car for the full Madeira experience). The diving area is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed everything about this place.

Family friendly hotel but real billing mess

Sister hotel of the ocean front Galomar (though the saltwater rock pool is shared). We had a standard sea view suite with a separate en suite sitting area and a terrace that could seat the entire family. This suite was clearly sports themed as it has a hometrainer, a Swedish ladder (wall bar), weights and a medicine ball. Plenty of free fitness and yoga activities in the hotel’s gym complex. Good breakfast buffet with show cooking. A couple of restaurants on the premises but the meagre lunch we had at the pool bar made us decide against trying other hotel eating spots. Our pleasant stay unfortunately was overshadowed by quite a mess up with the final bill that a very patient receptionist (thank you - sorry I didn’t ask your name!) was able to sort out in the end. Until this hotel gets their accounting in order you better book through one of the main online booking websites and NOT pay the hotel directly. The night receptionist (whose remarkably unfazed demeanour others have commented on here on TA before) first could not retrieve the deposit we paid. Then, upon checkout, I had to spend half an hour tracing back payments made to finally convince the day manager (only available over the phone!) that they were double charging hundreds of Euros I had already paid …

Make sure you get the room you pay for!

This hotel complex is beautiful!! It is clean, safe and the views from every corner are stunning. It started off a bit rough, as we arrived at 11pm and unfortunately only Luis was on duty. He really needs customer service training. We upgraded to a seaview room at a higher price so upon checkin I asked if our room was seaview. His reply was if “that is what you booked then you got it”. Our ac was not working and the room was boiling. Luis was not helpful at all. After seeing the room, we told him we booked a 28 metre room. And our room was tiny. His reply “i don’t carry a measuring tape, some rooms are big and some are small”. Anyway we gave up, unpacked and went to bed. In the morning, we went to reception and she was so helpful! She said the room we booked was not available but she could move us to Galomar. From then on our stay was amazing. We were slightly annoyed that we had to repack and move as we had to wait for the new room to be ready at 1pm. So we did lose a morning. Not ideal when we only had two full days there. Everything else was excellent. The restaurants, the pools and the room. Just a note that the LIDO area by the ocean is public. Meaning that you will not get chairs/umbrella at that level (unless you go super early). But there are more near the other pool. We loved the Galomar and highly recommend you get a seaview room there.
