Overnatting

Lovely People and Large Room

This hotel is in a great location near a metro stop. Our room was rather large and had a nice bathroom with a tub. The people who work at the front desk are amazing! We had a problem with our air conditioning which was quickly resolved. The nice lady at the front desk was so helpful, and made sure to check on us to make sure the problem had been resolved. The pool is lovely and has great views--it was a little too cold for me to enjoy, however. I highly recommend this hotel. The only things that I think could be improved are things I found to be an issue at almost all hotels I stayed at in Portugal and Spain. It would be nice to have more outlets or USB ports on both sides of the bed, and the pool needs to be heated.

Fantastic hotel!

Excellent hotel in a beautiful part of the city. We travelled to Lisbon for my wife's birthday and the hotel went above and beyond to make it special for her. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful with recommendations. It's around a 10-15minute walk into the tourist spots, but the walk is very pleasant and seems to pass really quickly. The hotel is situated next to lots of high end designer shops and fancy restaurants and the area feels very safe. The rooms and facilities are amazing - everything is so clean and the rooms are a good size. Could not recommend PortoBay Marquês any more highly!

Superb hotel with fantastic location, around the corner from Avenida Liberdade shopping and Marques de Pombal transport

We stayed at Portobay Marques in September 2023, staying in a Junior Suite (a misnomer, given that we are both seniors…). Room 34 was lovely, with just about everything perfect. Our only slight issues about the room were the ones that we have with pretty much every hotel room that we have stayed in, regardless of number of stars and country in which they are located - insufficient power outlets (no spares alongside the bed or next to seating), insufficient shelving (we had to store his and hers items alongside one another and sort out which was whose every morning) and lack of bathroom storage - it would be nice to have a cabinet in which ti store bags of medications and toiletries instead of leaving them out on display. Oh, and one quirk that was unique to this room - the designer of the room must have small children and miss the sensation of regularly stepping on a Lego brick, because they’ve put the door stop for the bedroom door about a foot out from the wall in front of the wardrobes such that it can be regularly trod on! It could have easily been put on the wall instead, but where’s the fun in that? Aside from those tiny quibbles, everything else was superb. Clean, pefrfectly maintained, lovely staff, and working fridge and microwave. On arrival we were quickly and effiently checked in. We arrived at 11:30, our room wasn’t ready until 14:00, so were able to leave our suitcases at reception and go out to explore the area. We had lunch at Brown’s restaurant, which was nice but weird. My wife opted for “shrimp patties” which turned out to be crushed cocktail prawns in a cream sauce all wrapped and fried in a “Findus crispy pancake” style parcel (odd) and I had steak with a blue cheese dressing, which turned out to be a piece of perfectly prepared steak served in a cereal bowl surrounded by a blue cheese soup - again, distinctly odd. After the strange lunch, we went back to the hotel and checked into the room. From that point on, we mainly ate in the hotel (we didn’t fancy a repeat of the Brown’s experience), and every meal that we had there was fantastic. I could finish up writing a book here, so I’ll stop now. Suffice to say that the hotel is brilliant, we’ll definitely be going back, Lisbon is a wonderful that should be experienced at least once, and the Portobay Marques is a great base to explore it from.
