Our 7th Visit to Acajou and it Just Gets Better Each Time!
Acajou Beach Resort is Special in just so many ways. It is known as "Praslin's Green Hotel. " Passionate Nature lovers will be delighted to hear that there are numerous eco-friendly practices in place. Acajou is owned and managed by a charming Seychellois family whose patriotism and love for their Island nation is contagious. This stunning 4 Star Gem is a haven of peace and tranquility. Acajou grows on you! You will feel you never want to leave, but when you do, you will be richer by the wonderful new friends you have made there. Acajou welcomes young and old. It's a safe haven for solo travellers. What a thrill it was for us to return in February for our 7th visit. It was heartwarming to see a comfortably full hotel and the joy on the faces of families being welcomed back after all the uncertainty of COVID lockdown and travel restrictions. My husband is 94 and we live in Cape Town, South Africa yet nothing will deter him from taking 3 plane trips each way, to enjoy a dream holiday at Acajou which has a very special place in our hearts and which we have come to regard as our Home from Home on Praslin. The hotel is blessed to be positioned on the beachfront on Côte d'Or, a glorious 3 km stretch of beach, regarded by many visitors as one of Praslin's most beautiful beaches. Acajou is built close to the sparkling turquoise waves that lap the dazzling white, powdery sand. From early in the morning it was a joy to watch from our balcony as pre breakfast swimmers bobbed in the gentle waves enjoying the blissful 28 deg.sea temperature. Get fit enthusiasts jogged along the 3km stretch and dog walkers let their boisterous dogs prance in the waves and chase the bubbles as they broke on the glistening sand. After a blissful stay at Acajou Beach Resort you will soon discover why it's very hard to tear yourself away. At this tranquil little beachfront Gem you will be welcomed warmly and cared for throughout your stay by some of the kindest and most hospitable hotel staff you will ever encounter. The General Manager, Ms Joanise Doway, is elegant and charming. She is loved and respected by her staff of 70+ because she is a Hands On GM who leads by example. Several staff made a point of telling us how they had been supported and cared for during Lockdown. We were impressed by their enthusiasm and fine work ethos. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble. They remained cheerful and went the extra mile to please their guests. Many of the staff made a point of learning our names which made us feel very special. We loved the way in which the staff complement represented a number of nations yet they all worked together harmoniously. Ms Doway's sister, Barbara, plays a key rôle in the hotel and her brother, Mr Claude, is a master photographer and has been the overseer of charming beachfront weddings. Folk from all over the world love the idyllic beach front setting and the fine culinary experience offered to their guests. The glorious Seychelles sunsets and the balmy starry nights are sheer magic. For us it was a joy to return and recognize many staff members who had served us on previous visits. Andrew oozes charm and is the amiable Guest Relations team member with an infectious laugh. He seems able to solve any problem you might encounter. Serah and Gillianne and their new assistants, Angelique and Adriana who work in Reception are extremely helpful and efficient and will help you with bus routes, taxis, car hire, booking tours, currency exchange, confirming flights and printing boarding passes! Browsing through the reviews it appears that for many guests the Restaurant and the appetising food on offer proved to be a special holiday highlight. We highly recommend opting for the Half Board package because the breakfast buffets and themed evening dinner buffets are a delight. The food is tastefully and creatively presented to whet the appetite. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for. The chief Chef Asoka and his Deputy Indika produce tantalising meals and decadent desserts. Their freshly baked bread, rolls, pastries, croissants, cakes and biscuits are a mouth watering delight.Hats off to the kitchen staff who work in very hot conditions yet always appear with happy smiles. We were overjoyed to find well loved and familiar faces like those of Bettina, Rayan, Kuruppu and Eranda still serving as waitrons or bar tenders, together with Amila, Ishan,Aruksha and charming young Aruna, who wore a captivating smile even when shouldering an enormous load of dirty dishes en route to the kitchen. You will immediately feel contented and relaxed in your beautifully appointed bedroom. The mattresses and pillows are extremely comfortable. There is all you need for a carefree stay...a wall safe for your valuables, ample cupboard and hanging space, hangers, towelling gowns and slippers, a drying rack on the balcony, an extremely quiet yet super efficient air conditioner and brightly coloured beach towels. The bathrooms are bright and spacious with very efficient showers and plenty of hot water. There are twin basins, a make up and shaving mirror and a pull out hairdryer on the wall. Supplies of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and toilet soap are topped up throughout your stay. Bed linen and towels are changed regularly and the House Keeping and room cleaning team under ever faithful Ben and Anne-May ensure that rooms are kept spotless. We thank Leah, Geetha, Yogendra and Michel for caring for us so wonderfully and ensuring that we always had a supply of tea, coffee, milk, fresh fruit and bottled water in our room. We were enchanted by the realistic little bunny, swan, elephant, snail, dog and flowers you so cleverly made out of hand towels as a surprise when we returned from breakfast. Our sincere thanks to Ebrahim who tackled little maintenance requests so willingly and who ensured that the beach was kept in pristine condition with sun loungers freely available. Thank you to the laundry team whose washing and ironing service was exemplary. One of our greatest joys at Acajou is to stroll through the beautifully landscaped tropical gardens. Credit goes to Ms Doway's husband, Mr Hugh Payet, who is not only a well -travelled and astute businessman but someone with artistic flair and insight who enjoys creative innovation. You will love the blend of soothing shades of green and the warm gold and russet tones, with vivid bursts of red, orange, blue, yellow and vibrant purple which lift your spirit. Towering above the garden and built close to the infinity pool and Star Fish bar you will marvel at another of Mr Payet's novel ideas. It's Acajou's newest and very attractive building ingeniously designed to create the impression that you are holidaying on a luxury yacht. Be sure to ask for a quick peep inside. The view from up high as you savour the beauty of the garden and the magnificent beach is breathtaking. Plans are in place to instal a jacuzzi on the top deck! Many reviews mention Acajou's close proximity to nearby shops, the affordable and easily accessible buses and the short stroll along the beach to other hotels and guesthouses.Acajou has its own Gym and a Boutique Shop which sells souvenirs and some items of beach wear and essentials which you may have forgotten in your haste to pack for Paradise! A heartfelt thank you to Ms Doway and her Acajou Team for another wonderful holiday experience. We said farewell with heavy hearts and would dearly love to see you all again.
Our 1st post-pandemic visit to Seychelles and 14th in the last 20 years
It is the 9th times we have been staying at Acajou ! Quite, relaxed and cozy boutique hotel run by Seychellois family with a very personalized service. Excellent for families with babies & kids - with wonderful sallow and clean Cote D’Or beach (one of the best on the island) far away from any noise by neighbourhood village
A wonderful week
We stayed in February 2023 and we enjoyed every day of our holiday. We were greeted immediately by the lovely Sarah and all of the staff continued to be friendly and charming. Our deal was via Voyage Privé and we chose to stay on a B&B basis. The buffet breakfasts were amazing and included eggs and bacon cooked to order. We ate in a number of the local restaurants in the nearby village (10 min walk down the beach or along the road at high tide) and all were good. The best food however was from the Acajou a la carte menu - it was superb! On Valentine’s Day we also ate from the buffet as this was the only option - and this was a work of art!! The chef Asoka was lovely and came out to speak with us - his kitchen is splendid. We chose a superior room (16) which was quiet, beautifully decorated and cleaned. The view was fantastic. On many days when we had a male cleaner, we enjoyed his fantastic towel art! Our deal included a bottle of fizz in the room - which was on ice waiting for us - we had to request the accompanying basket of fruit and it came immediately fresh and with grace. The beach, which is directly accessible from the pool and bar area, was to die for. Lots of sun beds available and a beautifully warm azure sea. There are breaking waves so no snorkelling to speak of. We did see Eagle Rays one day which were amazing, but we kept our distance!! We visited the World Heritage site of the Coco de Mer forest on the local bus (stops not far from hotel) and took the bus around the island. We also took a boat trip from the local village to Curieuse and snorkelled off St Pierre. Curieuse is lovely and there are fish to see near shore. The reef around St Pierre is unfortunately not in a good condition and disappointing - but still worth the experience- and of course it may be better at different times of year. It had been windy that day and there was a strong current so we couldn’t explore very far. There were no sand flies that we noticed! Only the odd mosquito, although we did apply repellent each eve as a precaution. Perhaps we were lucky - but we couldn’t fault our stay at the Acajou or Praslin and we would return. We now know to apply for the authorisation document to enter the Seychelles before flying from London!! It cost us a lot to pay on arrival! One couple staying in the hotel had tried many different hotels on Praslin and now go back regularly to Acajou. That speaks for itself!
Lovely Hotel
Stayed for 10 nights. Lovely hotel. Great beach. within short walking distance of some amazing local restaurants, but quiet enough to relax during the day. Staff were lovely. Food is very good at the hotel too.
