Unikt hyggelig hotell
Utrolig hyggelige og hjelpsomme innehavere! Vennlig personale!
Cheap but okay
So we went here in december of 2013. The bed felt like it was made out of concrete, but it ws actually a very cuddly plywood board with some fabric pretending to be a matress (I'ce seen worse). Air conditioning was not included, but 5 bucks for one week is an okay price. The restaurant was actuallypleasing, TRY THE GRILLED RED SNAPPER! Pool is nothing special, but the beach is great and has some nice beach shaks with some small dishes for lunch. At night it gets really cozy when they light some colorful light bulbs and you get yourself some drinks. Seaview from the balconys are beautiful, so get the seaview, definately!
Excellent service and nice location
This was the second time me and my husband stayed at Empire Beach Resort Hotel. What we liked most was the friendly attitude of all that serve at the hotel and how everyone did their best to meet our wishes, if needed. That's why we wanted to stay there again, even if the trip to and fro Iceland is a very long and tedious one. Our maid took care of our laundry for a small prize and the cleanliness of the place is excellent (people seem to be cleaning everything all the time). The distinguished lady that runs the place, Yasmine, was very kind to us and always ready to answer questions and point us to the right places (like an excellent tailor that made a wonderful suit of casmere wool for my husband and Yasmine made sure that we paid the right prize for this but not the overprize that tourist often are tricked into paying). I also happen to know that she takes good care of her staff and helps if someone gets sick or if there's sickness in someone's family. I don't think that's common in Indian hotels. Our room was very basic but spotless clean and when my husband got sick our maid made sure that we got a warm blanket and also changed the blankets and towels everyday while he was recovering. One of the servants at the restaurant turned out to be very well educated in the history and mythology of India and tireless in answering my husband's questions on this :) The other servants told us about their living far away in the north (Nepal and Sikkim) and didn't seem to mind spending their little pauses from work on telling us about their lives which for me was extra valuable since I'm interested in real life but not what you can read in any tourist pamphlets or tourist books. The other staff, like the gardener and his wife or the tireless young Tibetian boy that took care of the sunbeds, umbrellas and cleaning around the pool were also very friendly and we made as much conversation as possible even if lack of speaking English sometimes made it necessary to turn over to "actionary". When I travel I like the places I stay in to be personal and clean. Both of this is really true of the Empire Beach Resort Hotel! Our fellow guests, mostly coming from Scandinavia, were very nice. As most often when we travel we were the only Icelanders. I learned that many of these Scandinavians come every year to this hotel to stay - one of the Danish ladies was there for the 27th time/ 27th year! That should tell something about how people value this hotel!
Beautiful paradise on the beach
Beautiful resort with a lot of space. Beautiful garden, everything is clean and taken care of, a peaceful haven in Calangute. On the beach and only a 5-10 min walk through a peaceful beautiful road up to the main street. Small shops and restaurants on the way if u don't wanna go all the way to the main street. The rooms are basic, but everything works and everything is clean. Hot water in the shower, good toilet, very comfortable bed, fan, and storage space and a fridge with a freezer. Our room was on the shade-side which was nice when the sun got hot. I love this place! Beautiful swimming pool which is not crowded. Wifi aroud the pool area, but not in the room, IT doesn't matter. No tv in the room, but we didn't miss it once. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and they all make you feel like you belong there, The restaurant is very good too, so you don't need to walk far for lunch or dinner. Breakfast is bread with jam and butter, and tea or coffee, but u can pay a little extra for anything else you want from the breakfast menu. Security guards on both sides of the hotel makes you feel safe at all times. People say there are lots of moskitos and sandflies in Calangute, but we didn't see any of that around the hotel. Maybe because everything is so clean and taken care of every single day of the week. Only thing I would bring next time is a hair dryer and a small kettle to make tea and coffee in the room. The electricity is the same as in Norway, so we didn't need any adaptor There is a big supermarked called Newton's on the main street, and you will find everything you need there, from towels to groceries to shampoo and moskito repellent, cakes, ice cream, toys and wine/beer, And everything is so cheap. Empire beach for me was the best place to stay for our first trip to Goa, and it is the place we will definitely go back to next time. When you don't have to worry about anything in your room or around the hotel, you can actually just relax and enjoy your holiday. One good advice: Don't buy anything they try to sell u on the beach the first days, Check the prices at Anjuna market or the night market first. I miss my room, the hotel, the pool and the staff so much, and can't wait to go back.
