Sentralt hyggelig hotell
Men SP var utmerket for oss. Rommene var flotte. Relativt nye fine møbler. Bra renhold. Veldig bra frokost, american breakfast.
Our stay was good- but I can see why others wasn’t!
The majority of the reviews at this hotel are far too critical to reflect the very enjoyable stay we had here. Maybe we just got really lucky. I can definitely see where a lot of the comments come from- yes, it is true, people reserve the sunbeds. On its worst days, this means past 9AM if you havent been to the pool, you aren’t getting a bed for at least a couple of hours. On most days though, at 9AM there will still be a couple of beds left, albeit not the best ones. I would say about 33% of people (myself included) who get up at 7AM to reserve a sunbed, actually sit on them before 10AM, which leaves 2/3rds of the sunbeds reserved but unoccupied. It’s frustrating for many and causes a lot of hostility around the pool- at one point I seen a man lying next to a woman- a bit too close for comfort- who was alone telling her “off you pop” etc over getting his favourite sunbed. This culture of everyone looking over their shoulder round the pool seemed present throughout our stay. If, like us, you have no problem whatsoever with getting up early and sunbathing, the pool area is very good. The views are stunning, two minutes down the road you have stunning views of the caldera and the pool is a good size. I will however say, the pool does not have a lifeguard so is inappropriate for children, and for adults this also leads to ill-disciplined children splashing about and making the pool less relaxing. The pool bar is very nice although it is a bit annoying how fast they run out of draught beer, but I suppose supply chain issues are part and parcel of today’s world! What I don’t think is acceptable is a lack of accessibility precautions taken at the hotel. Whilst me and my partner are fortunate enough to be able-bodied, one of the elevators being completely out or service for the entire week would have rendered the pool area and majority of rooms inaccessible to anyone with mobility issues. The elevators are very dated as well so I would not be surprised if this was a common occurrence. Gym facilities are much better than most hotels, although I only used this once (leg day is pretty much hiking to Imerovigli and back). We struck gold with our room in the sense that- whilst it was based on an alley- we did gain a small sea view. The alley was quiet enough and so this really was not a problem, however some rooms have awful views of other room’s windows, or construction sites. Definitely not the “garden view” promised. Rooms are modern, tastefully decorated and very clean. You might want to bring your own hairdryer though as the one on offer is not good. Breakfast is pretty good- can imagine vegetarians would struggle though. The selling point of this hotel is honestly the location. Five minutes and you’re in the bustling markets of Thira, Firostefani’s sunset is a hidden gem that not many are willing to travel for but is actually better than Thira’s as well. Overall we loved the hotel given our luck with a pleasing room, and if offered the room again at the same price (£900 for our 7 night package holiday from Newcastle) we would definitely take it in a heartbeat. However, the prices have seemingly shot up. I wouldn’t say this stay is worth more than what we paid. But if you’re looking for value-for-money, I guess Santorini in general isn’t where you’ll find it. That being said, this was one of our favourite holidays and the hotel plays a huge part in that!
We stayed at the Santorini Palace for three nights in August. We were so pleased that they gave us a room upgrade with our own private pool! It was so gorgeous to go out to the pool and watch the sunrise. We also were able to use the semi private pool with beautiful beds on top of the pool. The staff at the resort were incredible. They couldn't do enough for us. From help to get a taxi to allowing us to borrow a converter. The room was spacious. It has a lot of places to store your clothes The bed was comfortable and the air conditiong worked very well. The location to Fira was about an 8 minute walk depending on where your room is located. We were 606. We were so sad to leave. I would highly recommend this hotel.
