Bare helt fantastisk
Good but pricey
Whilst our Solaz apartment in the Cordial Morgan Playa hotel complex was very good … it was also relatively expensive compared to other such rated apartments. We had a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apt with B&B. The apartment was well appointed and the patio with hot tub was excellent. The location is good and whilst somewhat detached from the main hotel facilities, this made for a quiet and relaxed stay. Housekeeping was first class with daily bed/linen changes and cleaning. The buffet breakfast in the hotel is very good albeit somewhat crowded if you hit peek times. Although there was a large flat screen TV in each room in the apartment there was no reception of English speaking channels, which when reported the hotel reception/maintenance said there was an issue with the system and given there was no Netflix/other streaming services available, the TV’s were of no use to us. Did we enjoy our stay in Solaz … yes. Would we return to the Solaz … no … relatively too expensive compared to other options.
I'm impressed
I stayed here as a family of 5 and I couldn't be more impressed. Excellent food, lovely jacuzzi, lovely choice and standard and have and would recommend to my friend and family. The thing which makes me put the icing on top is the lovely choice of pools and jacuzzi if your staying in the solaz.2 lovely pools which are one of the best I have ever seen. This is my second stay at the hotel and impressed with the quality that this hotel brings to mogan
2nd visit with other family members
This is now our second stay at these apartments. This time we booked two, one bedroom apartments, as treated our parents. They aren’t cheap, but, luxurious and we liked the freedom of an apartment, but also the opportunity to use the hotel facilities. We were allocated apartments 301 & 304, last November 2021, we were in apartment 301. The apartments were lovely and clean and we noticed some further electrical appliances in the kitchen from last time, being a pod coffee maker & juicer. Non of the appliances looked used at all. This time we were half board, as when booking it was just an additional £60.00 each. Last time we were just bed and breakfast. There are set dining hours, first sitting at 6pm, second 8.15pm. You are allocated a table number for your evening meal for the whole of your stay on your first night of arriving at the dining hall. Dinner was buffet, and three cooking stations. There is a dress code, no shorts. We saw several people being told by management (politely) next time to not wear them. I have to say It’s not the best choice of food we have had abroad, but, it was not the worse either. I am gluten intolerant, and unfortunately, apart from fruit for dessert, there was nothing on offer from the dessert area. You had to request a gluten free dessert, which they prepare for you, a few times I felt a pain as they were so busy. This dessert consisted of either a lemon sponge cake with cream, chocolate brownie with toffee sauce topped with strawberries or a banana with raspberry sauce. A few nights I skipped it as found a gluten free ice cream parlour that served GF pancakes, waffles etc. I did have to complain when I got a chopped banana with sauce, as I could of get that myself from the buffet. Anyone that is gluten intolerant will be disappointed with the choice unfortunately. For breakfast there is a tiny section with a gluten free bread loaf and gluten free pastries. We were allowed to use all the facilities of the hotel. All staff members we encountered were polite and friendly and they all worked hard. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with lovely plant displays, walk ways and hearing the birds during the day was lovely. The hotel offers tours of the gardens, and hotel. The gentleman that checked the hot tub daily always asked us if we wanted to keep the cover on or off. We always had the cover on, as it was lovely and hot during the evening when we used it. There were apartments below us, think also one bedrooms, (two bedroom ones are actually on the hotel complex), we definitely would not want those as you don’t have any privacy on those ones. It has been mentioned that there is only one English Channel on the TV’s in the apartment. This is sky news, we could not get this at all in our room, but, my parents could in there room. There is complimentary shower gel, shampoo and tea and coffee on the apartments. There is a hairdryer, but, you have to keep the button press down all the time, anyone with arthritis, or weak grip may struggle. Puerto de Mogan is absolutely beautiful and we had fantastic weather. We would definitely return.
Great, with a few design flaws.
These apartments are fab, but they're not perfect, there are design flaws. We had a two bedroom, two bathroom duplex with private hot tub. It wasn't cheap, it's probably the most expensive accommodation in the hotel and apartment complex, so admittedly my expectations were high. One of the beds wasn't made up for us on arrival, which was disappointing as I had emailed about it and got a reply. We got to bed at 1am because I had to contact reception at midnight to get the bedding and of course being in the Canaries there are huge cockroaches which sneak in to the accommodation. The apartment living area was cool and spacious and the bedrooms were small and tight, although wardrobe space is good. Be aware if you're petite, the hangers are semi-fixed and high up. The apartment was extremely clean and the friendly cleaners did an excellent job every day. The full Bosch appliances I thought I would never use on holiday were indeed utilised. There are no instructions, I worked it out myself. The hot tub was lovely, the terraces were sunny and comfortably furnished and I would book the apartment again, but I'd come prepared. There is a lack of mirrors, they are too high for kids and smaller people and it was impossible to see in the en-suite bathroom to put makeup on because of the depth of the sink and shadows. I had to use a mirrored compact which I propped up and then I sat on the toilet with the lid down. The lighting is awful, it's just too dark and shadowy in the bedrooms/bathrooms and there was no full length mirror in the main bedroom. The hairdryer was weird. You had to hold the big button down to get it to work, so unless you've got the grip of a gorrilla it's hard going, I used my travel hairdryer. Getting ready was a challenge, despite having two bathrooms. The air con is set to go no lower than 20 degrees, which is fine (it's environmentally friendly) and it has three fan speeds. The issue is we knew it wasn't working properly in the twin bedroom, it was boiling despite the fan being on full. I complained twice to reception who said they'd send an engineer. Nobody came. At several points it was 26-28 degrees in the twin bedroom in July. Other families staying in the apartments mentioned issues with the air con and one said they were looking to be moved, so as these apartments are relatively new it seems like the hotel knows, but can't fix it. I've written a seperate review for the Cordial Mogan Playa Hotel which, I have to say, is wonderful. If you're a family of three, the suites at the hotel are a good option. The area of Puerto de Mogan is lovely for a chilled holiday. Some great restaurants, but the tiny beach is limited. If you're expecting beautiful white sand, big waves and loads of cool water sports you need to go elsewhere. My advice for families with older kids is you really need to hire a car if you stay here, there is little for them to do in the immediate area. HolidayWorld theme park and Aqualand waterpark are a half hour drive away.
