Stayed in September to walk the Vikos gorge and Astraka refuge - both walks can be done without using the car. The village is very special and the hotel is well appointed with fantastic views especially at sunset from the restaurant, which is very good. Recommended!
My family and I stayed for four days in middle July, and it was wonderful. We met the most friendly and helpful staff. They booked horse riding and water rafting for us. They made a lunch pack as we left early for hiking, and the breakfast and dinner was just wonderful. The room was clean and the view from room and restaurant just fantastic. You have to be able to climb stairs though. 😊
A distinct venue, in a magical region
At the very edge of Mikro Papigo, just off the start of the trail to Dracolimni, Mikro Papigo 1700 hotel stands, comprising a few renovated traditional houses and a new impressive central building. With utmost respect to the traditional architecture, it boasts a fresh elegant look, with bald design details in the welcoming common areas. The village itself is amazing; serene and charming, just a few minutes’ drive from the more popular (and crowded) Papigko and in a region with a wealth of sightseeing activities. We visited for a couple of days last summer and the room we booked for our family of 3 was located on the ground floor in one of the renovated houses; it was spacious and stylish, although kind of dark, with a super comfortable bed and a quite uncomfortable sofa bed. The breakfast served at the Veranda 1700 restaurant is not to be missed; it is exquisite, offering an extended variety of savoury and sweet options, mainly drawing from the local culinary tradition, and based on locally sourced produce -coupled with breathtaking views to the surrounding mountains. The restaurant is a destination on its own merit, and it's worth a visit for lunch or dinner, for one to capture, in a more comprehensive way, their innovative approach. There is, obviously, a spa, with sauna and steam facilities and an indoor pool, which although a little bit tired at the time of our visit, was reinvigorating, after a day of sightseeing. Last, mind that walking from the parking lot, at the village entrance, to the hotel is challenging, as the cobblestone street is quite steep. Thus, if you are heavy with luggage, or not in the mood to walk, you may call the hotel to send an ATV to drive you up.
A lovely place for hiking.
Beautiful place . Stayed for 5 days. Wonderful weather. Nice to have a rental car to zig zag in the area. Very nice paths to walk. The breakfast was delightful. Would have given 5 stars, if they had answered the phone and picked up our luggage when we arrived. A peaceful and wonderful gem in Zagori.
Best place to stay in Zagori (Greece)
1700 Mikro Papigo was the dream stay! Pity we only had 2 days. The spacious and comfortable rooms (and the fireplace), the delicious food, the spa (especially after a day spent hiking! - the trails start right at the entrance to the hotel), the friendly and attentive service, the views from rooms and from the restaurant - we will definitely return.
