We have stayed several times at the Aphrodite Hotel. The rooms are large and provide a fridge, safe, aircon and lovely comfy beds. Linen is changed frequently by cheery cleaners. The taverna serves brilliant food from a snack to a full evening meal. The sun beds are thick comfy and plenty of them along with outside chairs and settees. Beside a large swimming pool. More comfy seating in the shade is up at the hotel. I fell and all the staff and family were marvellous towards both my husband and myself. Having spent 5 days in hospital they welcomed me back and did everything possible to make my last 2 days enjoyable. My thanks to everyone for the kindness shown.
Beautiful Aphrodite & Molyvos
This is the second time we have stayed at the Aphrodite and the trip had been 2 years in the making due to Covid, so we were very much looking forward to it. Needless to say, we were not disappointed! The hotel is fantastic, in a very beautiful setting and immaculate. We stayed in a suite (family of 4) and had plenty of space and 2 balconies with views over the surrounding countryside and the beach to the side. The pool area is brilliant, nice big pool and plenty of comfortable sunbeds. The beach is very nice too, but with little ones it was all about the pool! We had many nice meals at the taverna, the views are amazing and the food is excellent too. Breakfast is buffet style and had a lot of variety and is constantly re-stocked, so it doesn't matter what time you come down for breakfast, there is always plenty to choose from. What really makes this place special though are the staff. Everybody who works here are so nice and friendly and will go over and above to make sure you have an excellent stay. We brought our 2 young children with us and they were made to feel so special, I know they will have many happy memories of this holiday and we will be back as soon as we can!!
This hotel had so many positives
Firstly the things that stood out about the Aphrodite Hotel was the beautiful quiet country location, helpful staff, the cleanliness and maintenance of the public areas as well as the rooms and modern bathrooms/showers, great seating area's scattered around the grounds so always somewhere to sit and relax. Must not forget the best ever comfortable super thick sun loungers both at the pool and on the beach, many hotels should invest in these. It was fairly quiet during our stay which suited us, it was so pleasant sitting on the lovely peaceful terrace having breakfast, this consisted of a buffet which overall was very good. The beach Taverna is excellent, it had a good menu choice and the food was fresh and home cooked, adding some specials would be even better especially for those staying half board. The staff were all really helpful and friendly we ate many lunches and a few evening meals here, the Sunsets were magical. We knew when booking this hotel that the beach was stones and that it was a 30 minute walk to the nearest restaurants and shops in the stunning town of Molyvos, so we were prepared and brought our water shoes, also we like to walk so getting to town on foot out of main season wasn't a problem for us, it was also a nice walk which had street lighting coming back and definitely kept us burning off the food we were eating. Yes it would be ideal if there were a few places a little closer so if the hotel do re-instate the mini bus it will appeal to a much wider audience especially in the hot summer months. Lesvos is a lovely authentic unspoilt island and recommend hiring a car to see some of it, we found some very pretty places but Molyvos itself stood out. Yes we would definitely return to beautiful Lesvos and we wouldn't rule out returning to the peaceful Hotel Aphrodite as it was an ideal place for us, good for couples and had a romantic feel to it, well certainly with those beautiful sunsets.
Not recommended for older or disabled people or young families if you want more than a pool holiday
This hotel is missing a trick in not providing transport occasionally into Molybos. In itself, the hotel is very good. In general the staff are friendly and helpful. (Though housekeeping was a bit useless, taking towels away and not replacing them! However, front desk always sorted). The air conditioning was excellent and was not charged extra. Kettle and fridge provided, but only tea bags, so if you're a coffee drinker, take your own instant. There's a coffee machine (no decaf) and tea at breakfast. Buy milk in town - ask for fresh otherwise it will be sterilised. So .. positives first. Molybos town is the most beautiful town I have ever visited. It sits on top of a hill, has lovely ruined castle, lots of cobbled streets everywhere and great tavernas. The hotel is clean; breakfast is good, though a bit samey every day - either scrambled or poached egg, cold 'meats', breads, yogurt, honey and jams, pastries and cake, tomato and cucumber. The pool looked clean; we didn't use it because we are not sun worshippers and there isn't a lot of shade. Negatives: There is a beach, but not the kind you kind make sandcastles with. It's very heavy on stones and we watched 2 possibly 20+ men struggle to get out of the sea. The hotel is outside of the town. To walk in to Molybos, one has to negotiate an approx 30 degree slope fo 20-25 minutes to get to the outskirts and a further 20 to get to any shop or taverna. The harbour is further again. I couldn't recommend this hotel for anyone who is disabled, older, with a pushchair or small children if they want to walk. There's no shade for the walk. The hotel no longer provides a bus. I think this is a mistake on the hotel's part, because a bus iwould be a necessity for many people here. I understand they need to cut back expenses, but this is not the way to do it. Our room was north facing, as many, if not most, of the standard rooms are. So it was dark all day (and cold, too cold!) because of the oblique way the balcony is positioned. The bed was hard. We had booked half board. Give the hotel their due, they tried hard. The taverna opened at 12 noon. We could take our meal any time after noon - and we were offered anything we wanted from the menu. (Highly recommended are the pork chop, the lamb chop and the Aphrodite salad.) In a time-honoured way, they brought a sweet dessert after. The downside for us was that it was the same limited menu every day and, unless we skipped eating there, we couldn't try another taverna. Others were trying tavernas in Molybos, either walking in or getting a taxi. We hired a car for 4 days. There isn't a lot to see on Lesbos, but the villages are worth stopping in for a taverna. The landscape is mostly scrub with a few trees. Sigri is a long, mostly windy, drive and tiny. They're building a huge marina there, so in a couple of years that will have grown. The roads to go there have been improved, but not yet finished. Otherwise roads across Lesbos are windy and slow. Other reviewers have commented on noise. The hotel was quiet while we were there, but we could hear people if they were chatting as they walked down the corridors. Take planty of sunscreen - and mosquito protection, because they are there! Overall, if the hotel offered transport into town, I would recommend it, but not without transport.
This was our 4th stay at the Aphrodite, we have tried staying in the village but the setting here is just amazing and all the staff are wonderful especially the guys down at the taverna who are really friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and everywhere is spotless. You can enjoy a leisurely breakfast with plenty of choice and the meals at the taverna are lovely if you don't want to travel into town. Talking of travelling the only down side was that the advertised shuttle bus service was not running. This means either an uphill walk into town or a taxi, if you aren't up to the walk you need to factor the cost of taxis into your holiday, 5 euros to the taxi rank in the village, 8 euros to the harbour and 12 euros to Petra. We enquired and it seems that the bus is not going to be replaced for next year either although jet2 are still advertising that it runs 4 times a day. We went on some lovely boat trips which we booked at the sea horse in the harbour, we tried lots of different tavernas and honestly didn't have a bad meal anywhere, a special mention for Molly's bar for a lively night out and Bazar for a lovely chilled atmosphere. Thanks to the hotel for arranging a birthday cake for my husband's 50th birthday which we celebrated while we were there. We had another amazing stay and we are already planning our next stay.
