Beautiful boutique hotel with tranquility and relaxing beach
We had a senior suite which was amazing, peaceful with a nice view to the see. Very quiet beach, not too many guests and always plenty of free beach chairs. Very attentive reception staff, fast communication before our stay. They arranged a rental car for us, everything went smoothly. There is a Seahorse excursion organiser which we took to visit La Curieuse island to see giant turtles and snorkeling at St. Pierre island, recommend the tour. You can pet the turtles. They carried out the excursion in a timely manner. The hotelexceeded our expectations and was much nicer than one would think from the photos. The breakfast was quite basic though, but you could enjoy it on the terasse facing straight to the beach. Dinner was very good. If you visit the rainforest, Val de Mai, I recommned taking a tour guide. La Digue and Anse Source d'Argeant is a must do. We went to four beaches there, Anse major, Anse Petite and Coco Beach in addidtion, which is the furthest away. You can reach them by bicycle and trekking.
Recommended for a beautiful & relaxed stay
Our room was beautiful, bright, spacious and kept cool. We had a view out to sea through the palms, and seating on the verandah. Be careful of the red-brown sandflies - lots gathered by our outside light one nighe and got us next day! Very good breakfast at the beach restaurant - service was slow some days, but food was good and buffet was restocked on request. Cereals, warm pastries, bacon etc, pancakes, breads, yoghurts, fresh fruit, juices & water. Eggs and tea / coffee prepared to order. Doves are constant visitors to the beach tables (we liked but some guests did not), they came to the inside tables much less often. All staff including reception were really helpful & friendly. The hotel is quiet and has pretty gardens - the hillside means a lot of steps to / from the bar, pool, restaurant and beach to rooms, but the height gives the views! Location is a fair walk to the main cote d'or restaurants etc. but the quiet and calm Anse Gouvernement beach made that worthwhile for us. White sand, very little seaweed. Beach desk offered towels, snorkel gear, life jackets and kayaks. The water being so calm, shallow and clear a good way out, meant that even as a non-swimmer, with a life-jacket & snorkel mask and holding my husband's hand I was able to snorkel along the rocks to the right and we saw lots of different fish. We loved our 5 night stay at L'Archipel, but would say to be sure to stay on La Digue too as the low key, slow pace feel there was a real treat.
Good but not excellent
This is a good hotel, on a beautiful beach with the finest whitest sand. We had a beachside villa, which was clean spacious and very comfortable. The hotel is quite remote, so going out to dinner does require a taxi. Staff are very helpful and will assist as well as advising on tours. The food was a little disappointing, breakfast was lacking any flair and the presentation of the breakfast buffet was rather “tired”. Having said that it was plentiful and tasty. A little effort from the management would greatly improve things. Instant coffee and powered milk is not what you would really expect from a hotel of this standard. Nevertheless a lovely place to stay.
Beautiful view and lovely beach!
We had a lovely stay at L'Archipel. The view from our villa was outstanding! It was so nice to wake up to the view of the beach. The food was delicious and they had lots of vegetarian options for us. We booked several excursions from Masons Travel, which were easy to work with as they picked us up from the hotel. The staff was all helpful and friendly. While we could get taxis, we also walked to the town and used the bus a few times which was not difficult to catch from nearby the hotel.
