Still a great location but there were issues with the booking
This was our 3rd stay and last year there wasn't a room for us on our first night and they wanted to move us out of our room at one point during the week last year and came to find us on the beach to ask us to move as there was a disabled guest who needed our room and made us feel very guilty and then said oh never mind it was a mistake! And on the last day our flight was a late one so we asked if there was a room we could use to change etc they said no but when they saw us hanging about they said oh you can have a room to change! This year we booked again and arrived and they were all smiles to see us but yet again we had to stay in one of their other apartments for the first night. Oh you can stay in the apartment for the week if you want they said. No we want to stay here in the hotel that's why we booked it! We got a room in the morning, but it was probably the least attractive room we have had in the 3 times we've stayed there. We love Plakias, the beach and all the places to eat and really look forward to our September trips there but they really do need to look after their guests better. I think they might be getting a bit complacent and need to be careful and it seems from other reviews that we are not alone in our experience. It's a shame because we thought we had found such a great little hotel.
Nice Breakfast but didn't stay there
I have been to Plakias 15 times & this holiday was special as it was our 30th wedding anniversary therefore paid £1800 for 2 weeks to stay here but from day one there was a problem. Arrived first day Tuesday 3rd and was advised by the management that there was a problem with our room (overbooked) and we had to stay at another hotel with a sea view for 4 nights and we could move in to the room we originally booked in. We were given the option to stay where we were or go to the Alianthos for the last ten days of our holiday, but if we chose to stay at the alternative apartment we would be charged a further 9 euros per day (90 euros ) which we thought was outrageous. Our most helpful Olympic rep Julie had a brief meeting with the owners & ourselves and it was agreed the 90 euros was waived and we could stay at the alternate hotel as we would not stay at the Alianthos beach due to being messed about. One week into our holiday the Alianthos came looking for me stating we had to move out of where we were staying, doing a u turn on what they had agreed with the Olympic rep and ourselves. Outraged by this my wife & myself had a heated meeting with the management & stated we were staying put & would not return to their hotel. We will be returning again to Plakias next year but will be giving this hotel a wide berth as they in my opinion treated both of us terribly.
Past its 'sell by' date
Good location, friendly staff, but room was very dated (though perfectly clean). Beds were comfortable, although our 'double' consisted of two twins pushed together, each with sheet and blanket firmly tucked in at both sides! The bathroom was awful - musty smell coming from an old 'stand alone', leaky shower/spa unit which might have been state of the art when new, but which now REALLY needed replaced by a simple modern shower unit. Breakfast had a wide selection of food for all tastes, most of which I'm sure was very good, but the sausages and bacon, and worse still the fried eggs, were stone cold. Hot cabinet not working? This hotel is not particularly cheap, and badly needs a make over - until that happens, I can think of no good reason for staying here, when there is so much really good budget accommodation in Plakias.
As this was our third holiday in 5 months and we were joining friends already in Plakias, we were on a lesser budget. Booked a week in the Alianthos Beach as it seemed good value and although the room was not the biggest and we didn’t have a room over-looking the beach, it was very clean and tidy. The shower took some getting used to but apart from that the room had everything you really needed. We were on a B & B package and the breakfast was buffet style and very good. The real pluses of this hotel are the staff. Particular mentions should be made of Efi at reception and Miros our waiter at breakfast. Efi was outstanding (she speaks at least 4 languages apparently) and couldn’t have been more helpful, was always pleased to see us and had a permanent smile on her face. She’s an absolute star!! Miros was so polite and kind and nothing was too much trouble. Both staff a credit to the hotel.
Friends advised us to try the Alianthos beach hotel, which we did on a Thursday night. We were greeted with politeness and friendliness, shown to a table, and advised of the Buffet system. We strolled up to the very large selection of food on offer, and settled for a Tomato soup and a semi-Greek salad to start. Everything was fresh, tasty and well presented. The Tomato soup was really lovely. As a main course we opted for a selection platter, for me to I picked Rabbit, lamb, Pork and Chicken with vegetables. My other half had the same with an addition of some fish. As with all help yourselves buffet’s, the eyes eat more that the body, however we did find room for a selection of yogurt, fruit and honey for dessert. Accompanied with a half litre of local wine, a beer, and water our bill came to €25.00. Great value for really nice food, however if there is one slight fault, it would be that the food was luke warm by the time we ate (around 9pm). Good for value and quality and price
