Bad hotel in a good location
First of all: hotel is below average. Conditioner didn't work, TV was absolutely useless, part of staff wasn't too friendly (there were really cool exceptions of course – shout out to tattooed bar tender) and room in general was probably renovated back in 90's. Pool is very symbolic and had cigarette butts swimming in it. Not a place you want to hang out – also street is right next to it. Good part: food was great! And location is good. So basically this is cheap place to sleep over while during days you leave for sightseeing or hanging out in Heraklion.
It was a package tour so it was not my choice and it was only one night. It looked ok at first side. Huge lobby, nice terrace etc.Receptionist lady was very good too. When we got in to room it looked ok but. Bathroom wasn’t clean. Sink and the bathtub were filled with hair. We told them to clean room again when we were leaving for dinner. We came back an noticed they did not even bothered them selves to come to room. We had to put our t-shirts over the pillows to make sure not to touch it. We slept with our clothes. If you think that was it, wait. Breakfast was lousy but we could find something to fill our stomach. Unfortunately we couldn’t eat because there were hair in my wife’s dish again. She took her plate and went to reception because only there she could find someone to tell the situation. Receptionist were polite and apologetic but it was obvious that it wasn’t a surprise for them. If you visit lovely Heraklion please go anywhere else but Marilena. You can even sleep at the rocky sea shore better than this place.
We had to stay here because our flight home was cancelled overnight, we arrived around 9.30pm ,we were dumped at the end of the slope leading up to hotel & left to find our own way we were greeted by screaming kids running around the reception area, the receptionist didn't really have a clue what was going on,she asked if we had a voucher! Nope we were just told by tui reps that we were being taken to a hotel overnight, we were also told we would get an evening meal, breakfast & lunch! Any way we were given rooms in a block to the right of reception, it was dark, there was no lighting and the path was very uneven, there were no lifts so had to drag our cases up the stairs, there was one porter who came along & helped some of the older people with theirs, the rooms were clean but very outdated, we had a double bed & a room with 2 single, the singles were concrete bases! Our bed was quite comfy to be fair, the aircon was powerful & the room was quiet ,we went down to see if there was any food available but were told the restaurant was shut! We managed to get a drink, in a cheap plastic cup, then went to bed,the next morning we went for breakfast, it was terrible, the orange juice was squash, the fried eggs were overcooked & all broken the beans looked awful & apparently everything was cold,I had toast, the only thing that I felt safe eating, the coffee wasn't bad but pressed for a white coffee & got black! ,we checked out & they did collect our cases from our rooms so that was good.we would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you were looking for a really cheap place to just sleep in .
Food was amazing. Meat and deserts especially. Staff could of been more friendly. Cleaness ok. Everyday we needed to aSo for clean towels. Bonus it’s near the beach. And you can use local bus to get to the city. It’s a bit dead around not too many clubs or restaurants. Only in City Heraklion
Definitely not 4 Stars.
Booked this through onthebeach.com Arrival was easy enough. The taxi charged 25 Euros (When signs say 20 from the hotel). Check -in was easy and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. As we arrived late he gave us a pre prepared meal of cheese, meats and some salad which was good enough. The Room: we stayed in "Deluxe Double" room 221 which overlooks the eating area outside. First impressions were that it smelt very stale and not as clean as you expect. Nothing was particularly dirty but it definitely needs a deep clean. The 2 single beds were pushed together and extremely hard and it was very hard to sleep. The noise levels were so loud as you can hear chairs sliding in the eating area downstairs constantly. Also, you can hear every room around you which also makes it hard to sleep at all at night and also in the morning. We bought earplugs from the store next door. The curtains were quite good at cutting out sunlight though! Aircon worked great and kept the room cool. The balcony is joined to every other room with a small fence separating them - definitely no privacy. The food: The food was quite good. It was always tasty and looked fresh. There was a variety every day. Eating areas indoors and outdoors - and the cats that came to say hello were obviously stray, but not intrusive and were friendly. The Beach: The beach was only a 5-minute walk and easy to get to. Spent most of the day there. You need a 10 EURO deposit to use their beach towels. The facilities: the Pool and play areas were good enough. They are understandably outdated but there was plenty of room. You have to pay for the pool table. Getting into the city centre is very easy - bus stop right outside. To get back to the hotel get the number 6. Buy a ticket from the mini store BEFORE you get on the bus! On the whole, it was a much older crowd (Over 45's) and we were by far the youngest people there.
