Good option for corfu.
Large resort with a great view. We booked into this hotel some time in advance as we found it quite difficult to find anything smaller with equal levels of amenities and price. From the start to finish the staff are very friendly and helpful. The facility is a renovated structure with lots of spaces. Its clean and our room on the 9th floor was spacious with a terrific view over the ocean. There aren't too many activities available without shelling out for them. There is not much either within walking distance so renting a car is favorable. As all inclusive resorts go the dinning is average. Much better next door at the Nido resort. If you opt for the optional a la carte restaurants be prepared to pay above average prices. If your happy with a pool or beach chair this is probably the better place to stay as most of the other beaches tend to be swamped. There is supposed to be a dress code but its rarely enforced unfortunately.
An excellent all rounder
My boyfriend and I visited early September 2019 for a five night stay. The aim of the game was time to relax and unwind, and the Marbella certainly didn't disappoint. Upon arrival we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a superior sea view room. The space was away from the main hustle and bustle of the hotel - clean and quiet with picturesque views. Upon booking the holiday, one of the main draws for us had been the food choices and the hotel exceeded our expectations. We had fantastic food for all courses in all three a la carte restaurants. The night we ate in the main buffet area was Mexican themed and the tacos were absolutely delicious. Our experience was one of fast, attentive and personalised service. We had exemplary interactions with the staff we encountered. I can see how the three dinners in the restaurants rule could get a bit frustrating for longer stays, but for five nights it was spot on. The food at the Dolphin beach bar was delicious. Unfortunately that is the one place we got relentlessly pestered by wasps and it did deter us from going back. A good tip is to ask for a smoker for the table, which kept them at bay at least. Whilst there we took advantage of a few activities on offer - the trek, water sports, French Boules, use of the gym. We were offered a complimentary private boat trip that took us on a 2 hour jaunt along the coastline. We bought a snorkel and would highly recommend making the investment! Looking at the fish in the clearest of seas is really quite remarkable. There isn't much of a beach to play on for any little ones - the kids tended to stay more up by the splash pool. Again, the beach space was ideal for us two who just wanted to occupy a couple of sunbeds and make the most of being in the peace and quiet. Our tips would be: Download the app - there's daily information about the activities going on in the hotel and how to get involved Make the effort to get up and see the sunrise. It really is the most spectacular of views Book the Italian restaurant for breakfast. It's table service for the most part and a lovely array of hot food options Try the limoncello!
I guess everyone has his own take of things, but Corfu as a hole has been amazing to us and the Marbella hotel is even better. The service, the room, the quietness is just so relaxing and we have only been here for 24 hours.
Not a 5 Star
Just returned from a stay at the Marbella Corfu Hotel. This hotel is in need of some serious TLC if it wants to be taken seriously as a 5 star resort. We stayed at a 5 star resort elsewhere in Greece in June, and the Marbella Corfu Hotel most definitely is not a 5 star property. Good Points - Food - very tasty and nicely presented - Drinks - branded alcohol - Setting - beautiful backdrop and views - Tavernas nearby - we visited these for lunch and dinner, even though we were on an all inclusive package - Nice weather - Some very nice/helpful staff - very clear seawater - some lovely garden areas Bad Points - Room smelt of mould and we had wires hanging out of the ceiling above our bed. - Steps everywhere which was not suitable with a buggy - not the hotel’s fault but it made things difficult - we should have done our research. - The fact you can only book 3 a la carte restaurants during a weeks stay, and I certainly wouldn’t call Splash Tex Mex Diner an a la carte restaurant. - Wasps - they are EVERYWHERE. I was actually looking forward to coming home as was so fed up with swatting wasps away from my 2 year old daughter. They are a complete pain. As soon as you sit down for breakfast or dinner, they are swarming around you. Mealtimes were the opposite of relaxing and enjoyable due to this. My husband got stung and a couple we spoke to had both been stung twice. This is not the hotel’s fault, more of the location as the hotel is surrounded by forest and pine trees, but they need to up their game in dealing with them. They have coffee smokers on some of the tables at the restaurant by the beach, but they need to do A LOT more. I was constantly paranoid that a wasp was going to land on my daughter’s ice cream and that she’d swallow it. - Beach towels - it’s so old hat to have to have cards for towels - if you lose your cards, you don’t get towels! Ridiculous. We’re staying at the hotel - why do we have to show you our towel cards? And the bloke at the towel hut was so rude. Would only ever give us 2 towels and not one for our daughter. She is a person!!!! And the towels were so tatty, crispy and frayed. My advice - take your own! - Sunbeds - although comfortable, they are very old and dirty. Restaurants Italian - very nice although lacking in atmosphere - very bright lighting inside so if you want some ambience, ask to be seated outside Greek - nice food but no atmosphere. Outside tables are in a small courtyard with surrounding walls for a view. No music playing and a film (Winnie the Pooh) was playing loudly on the rooftop bar above the restaurant, so that’s all we could hear - very odd. I asked about this and the waitress said they play films every Thursday night. In that case, close the restaurant on Thursday nights. Tex Mex Splash Diner - we didn’t go - should definitely not be considered an a la carte restaurant. We went to a taverna up the road instead which was actually our best night. Lots of Greek Music and dancing with lots of atmosphere. Main buffet - good food but basically a giant canteen - I’m sure it could be much nicer than it is, but the breakfasts and dinners we had there were tasty. Again, shame about the wasps. I think the hotel is very expensive for what it is. We were quite disappointed and it doesn’t look like it does in the pictures on their website. Parts of it are very tired. We were due to go for a week but British Airways cancelled our flight home, so we only ended up staying for 5 nights - that was long enough. We enjoyed our holiday and made the most of it, and our daughter loved the pool and slide, but we wouldn’t go back.
