Based on other reviews we were a bit skeptical, but everything was surprisingly good! The food was fresh and variated, and the people working there are super friendly and nice. They make you feel very welcome and at home. The hotel is gorgeous and the beach is amazing. If you want a classic all-inclusive experience, Rotana is perfect. Some activities at the hotel would have been nice. Some Yoga or surfing for example. Salalah (Oman) is a bit expensive (Taxi, food, drinks etc), so be prepared. We did an overnight trip in the desert. It was so good! The desert is beyond beautiful. We would have done more trips if it hadn’t been for the prices.
Nice hotel - oddly lacking in anything Arabic and somewhat old fashioned
If you're looking for a good value, nice resort to 'fly and flop' this is your place. It is very nicely kept, is pretty and is the cornerstone of the broader Hawana resort area. The beach is absolutely beautiful and the sea warm (with great surf if you like this, or a sheltered area by the harbour with no surf). Everything at the resort and across the whole of Salalah is super clean and the people friendly. What was missing for me was Arabaic/Omani flavour....we could have been anywhere. The food was modern european, the music was Smooth FM style western music, the same tracks played all the time whether on CD or by the band. As the cornerstone of the broader Hawana resort area, the Rotana must take steps to reduce single use plastic urgently.
Oman or Morocco? Morocco!
Mass tourism at its height. 35 km from town. An all- inclusive Mecca for sunworshippers. Nothing else to do but fry in the sun. We did not take all inclusive so ate at the few local restaurants in the complex nearby, all run by Indians. No authentic Omani cuisine. The resort accommodates over 500 rooms, mostly catering to Russians ( over 95%of tourists here). The service personnel are all from the sub Continient(India, Pakistan) and are very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the same can not be said of the Omanis at reception who are arrogant and unfriendly, and not accommodating, especially the Omani women. The landscape in Oman is very similar to Morocco so if a choice is to be made take Morocco where there is much more to do, visiting villages and Souks. The prices in restaurants are outrageous, especially for alcoholic drinks. If wine or beers are a staple of your evening meal avoid this country. Respecting the customs and culture of the region one can enjoy a meal sans alcohol. The absolute Monarch Sultan Qaboos is held as a diety and greatly respected. He has accomplished amazing feats in this country. A fascinating mix of benevolent authorative rule coupled with a socialistic economy. All in all much too expensive for what is offered. More for your money in Morocco.
We stayed here before and after joining a dive boat from the marina. It is a fairly new hotel and developing area. The hotel is spacious, very well maintained with great customer service. We ate only in the restaurant for breakfast buffet both days. The food was of a high quality, freshly cooked with a good variety available. Some areas (fresh fruit) ran out of items quickly but were refreshed and restocked just a quickly. Coffee was very good with your cup refilled almost as if by magic. The rooms were very spacious, with good AC and excellent bathroom areas. Plenty of towels and complimentary amenity products, which was helpful. The hotel has a very large pool with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas along with towels. The hotel also is directly located on the beautiful sandy beach - again with sun beds and umbrellas. The hotel overlooks the man made marina which is also home to a couple of other hotels and a number of restaurants, shops and cafes. A nice walk and not overly crowded. There is some building work going on in the area but it is residential away from the hotel and did not impact on our stay. We wished we had stayed longer.
Very nice hotel with good service, staff very friendly and helpful. Room average size, clean an quite. The atmosfere in the area is very relaxed, not too many people. The beach was also clean and full of marine life which is a sign of clean water. We saw dolphins and fish swimming in water.
