Supert hotell, med gode fasiliteter
Bodde i leilighetsdelen hos venner.
Spring sun
We stayed here in March 2023 and left the day before the start of Ramadan. We arrived in Qatar on a Qatar Air flight from Heathrow at about 1am. The check in was seamless and the luggage was quickly taken to the room. The room was large and comfortable with twin beds, as requested. Breakfast check in was equally efficient and the choice was typical of all American Middle Eastern hotels. The pools were crowded and noisy as was the beach after midday loud music being played from the Belgian Bar or the Beach Club section next door. The beach loungers are plastic and do not have mattresses so are not the most comfortable. The sun shades are static thatched structures and are arranged as four lounger units so some couples might find them a little ‘communal’ at first. The small bars/eating areas around the beach and the pools are fine, and you need to have your phone to be able to read the snack menus. Early evening pre supper drinks we liked the atmosphere of the Belgian Bar with music, sports TV. Mussels and chips and Belgian beers on draught. Supper in the buffet restaurant was the usual rotation of international dining, Thursday fish night was probably the best night. The Chef De Cuisine is Cenk Balkan, a genial man who spends time in the restaurant speaking to and discussing the food with the guests and overseeing the dining options. Would we go back, yes definitely.
Acceptable but not 5 star for us - it did the job
It has a drive up to the hotel. On arrival check in was 'professional' (albeit a little slow) rather than a friendly feel. The consequences of being here over the Ramadan period were not explained at the outset, which would have been good so we would have been aware of what would be closed. The room was large consisting of a large bed, sofa/table and a desk/chair, stocked minibar, flat screen tv and a Nespresso machine. The bedside plug sockets were 'international' but were temperamental and although you though you had put it in to charge, the items did not always charge, the bedside reading light on one side was broken and did not work. Air con was a little noisy with a flapping sound. But the room/bathroom was clean. The bathroom was a good size and had both a bathtub and a shower. Service levels were generally adequate, there seemed to be insufficient staff and they would try and avoid rather than help leaving a poor guest experience. Shrihar (poolside) and Leeroy (restaurant) were helpful though. Breakfast layout could definitely be improved, the oats are kept away from the cereal area. There are no spoons on the tables or near the cereal area. Waited 15m for someone to bring the tea and in the end they bought coffee which wasn't what we wanted. Items/food were not being replaced when they were low/finished. There were QR codes at the restaurants to see the menu, which just created delays as there were not enough of us with phones (left in the room or charging) so had to wait for each person so we could see the menu - if you want menus digitized you need to provide hotel tablets/pads. Elevator buttons were gold and you could see they were always dirty and not cleaned. There were good sized pools and a small children's pool. The pool would have been nicer warmer. It had a small private beach area and there were sunbeds available. There were umbrellas but were not always allowed to put them up due to wind, which then was a little difficult to find shade at times. The hotel was near a Metro station which was useful. We did feedback a number of things and although things didn't really change in the restaurant, Mahammad from the front desk did try and address the concerns and help. Having recently moved to this hotel from another, the service fell short given it was a 5 star, but at least they did help in trying to address the concerns.
Good stay
I spent one month in Intercontinental Doha, it was a good stay. The breakfast is a nice experience and all the waiters are kind (Sheron in particular). The bedroom are confortable and the sea view is a nice mode to start the day! Enjoy your stay!
