Topp hotell på Madeira
Veldig bra opphold! Her var alle aldersgrupper. Vi kommer gjerne tilbake hit.
Supert!
hotel photos give a impression of luxury that is not reality. Services & hotel lacking.
The experience started well. I emailed the hotel to request a seaview room with a walk in shower (mobility issues) the hotel responded initially stating that they only had rooms with baths. I emailed back saying that a bath would not be suitable - I would have difficulties getting in and out. The hotel replied again saying that on review, they upgraded me to a junior suite with a walk in shower. When i arrived, I was impressed with the reception, it was clean and modern with nice staff. I was disapointed that a welcome drink was not provided. Hotels of this standard I have stayed at, always provide a drink on arrival. I checked into my room and was very pleased with the suite and the views out to the atlantic ocean were beatiful. The room service was satisfactory. Towels were changed and the room kept relatively clean. There were a lot of ants in the coffee cups and the kettle one morning which put me off making coffee in my room. (there was no food or any sweet products left around so that was not the reason) The table on the balcony was not wiped or cleaned either. Again, I think that this is the minimum standard that is expected of a hotel of the 5* category. However, the few positives were largely outweighed by the negatives. I don't feel that this hotel offered the standards that 5* guests expect and pay for. Pools/s Use of the pools/swimming on holidays is a important part of the experience for me on holiday. I don't feel that i have been on holiday if I am not able to enjoy bathing in warm, healing, comforting water. The outside pools were feezing cold and therefore not comforting or enjoyable (I am used to heated/warm pools) I don't think that it is unreasonable to expect one heated pool in a 5* resort of this size. I made some use of the small indoor pool, which was heated to some extend, but the indoor area is badly in need of a refurb and it was not a plesant experience. The indoor pool did not have accessible stairs and it was very difficult to use the single metal stairs to enter and exit the pool. I tried the indoor jacuzzi and was disapomted to find that too was cold. I spoke to the 'customer experience manager' and she stated that the pools are not heated and there was nothing she could do. The indoor jazuzzi was warm the following day though so my concerns were noted. Food/dining For me, the food and dining experience was another big disapointment and in my opinion, 5* standards were lacking. On a positive note, gluten free items were clearly marked. However, there were no alternative milk products or yogurts etc at breakfast which was not good. Most hotels stock almond or oat milk as an alternative to dairy. There was a reasonably good selection of fresh fruits which was nice. The dining room, outside area was badly in need of a refurb - the dark celing with dim strip lights were gloomy and depressing. This is not what you would expect of a hotel of this standard. The tables were also cleared slowly and some were not cleaned or cleared quickly. This led to a canteen theme - not that of a top class resort. The choices at the eve meal were limited at best, the same, boring salad choices, uninspiring and lacking flavour and usually no more than 2 meat or fish choices. I tasted a tiny sliver of swordfish one night, but it was rubbery and tasteless. There were few fresh vegetables, no parawns, no fresh or smoked salmon, no steak. The options were pasta or a bad quality ham and a paper thin beef like dish, that was it. I also felt rushed on a couple of occasions - the staff would start clearing the food away before the dining room was empty. A staff member would then come and ask if I had finished my meal which made me feel unwelcome. The Mama Mia resturant, part of the resort was a far nicer option. The ambiance was nicer, it was cleaner and brighter but it required booking. The service was also a waiter service rather than buffet style. The food here nicelyso seemed like a much better quality with no cut corners or hurried staff. Rather than eat in the dining room, where i felt that the standards and service were lacking..... I choose to eat at the Mama Mia resturant or the El Sabor cafe near the pools instead. Sadly there was an additional cost to eat at the El Sabor, but for me the guaranteed good service and fresh, tasty food meant it was worth the extra cost, but bear this in mind when booking - it can increase the cost of your stay. Overal in summary, the hotel failed to meet my expectations. In fact I was left disapointed. This really is a case of the photos displayed on the booking pages or on the website really do portray a false impression and give you a sense of luxury that is far from what you get. If they are to attract 5* clientele, they need to up their standards massively. I have experienced far higher standards in a less expensive 4* hotel.
Vidamar Resort
Enjoyed our stay, lovely spacious room on 8th floor, sea view & handy for the lift to reception, pools & Lisboa bar. The room & hotel generally were spotlessly clean. The 3 outdoor pools were invigorating & nice indoor pool which led outside as well, gym good, short walk from hotel. Food in Mama Mia & Portuguese restaurants were nicer than the evening buffet & book early. Entertainment a few nights & nice friendly bar staff & good priced drinks. Cable cars & wicker baskets were fun, but don’t go to any main attractions when cruise ships are in!! Walk from hotel to centre of Funchal about 40 minutes & buses are very crowded on return! Weather mixed but warm. Very hilly so comfy shoes a must! Think you will enjoy!
Perfectly perfect
Amazing sea view from the 9th floor and welcoming reception staff got the holiday off to a perfect start. Access to the well equipped gym with friendly PTs was appreciated. We love Madeira and everyone in and outside the hotel were friendly and helpful. Thank you for another great break team VidaMar
