Good hotel with more potential
We have just returned from a family holiday at this hotel. Whilst we had a great time there were a few issues which hindered the full experience. The food in the restaurants was delicious and much better than most all inclusive hotels. The alcohol and cocktails where also really nice and much appreciate the non watered own and spirits of good quality! The night manager was a very kind man on checking in and they had a bag of sandwiches ready for us in case we had not eaten. This was much appreciated after a very delayed flight and long journey Due to end of season ( I suspect) a number of things where closed, broken and not available. There is also a lack of information available on how to, things that can be very easily prevented by adding information and closures in the guest information in the rooms. Housekeeping walked into our room at 23.15 after knocking once, we had children asleep and this really unsettled them. Would advice to put a do not disturb sign on the door when in the room as they also tried to get in during the day when we where getting changed however I was in time to shout no thank you then. Rooms We stayed in the AB area, approx 10 min walk with the smallest. Whilst this is not an issue, some of the paths in your resort really need some attention as loose tiles/ missing tiles are just a massive trip hazard especially in the evenings when these are not well lit. We booked into a Large promo room and with 4 people this was far too small for us. The sleeper sofa for the kids touched our bed, and whilst yes we should have booked a family room on hind sight perhaps this was our mistake. We did request a move but nothing available. There is also a very small balcony, barely enough to 2 people on. The room lacks basics such as an iron, and tea/coffee facilities. Restaurant The website states 3 restaurants on site, however the third one was permanently closed. The Grill is only available upon reservation between 8.30-10.30 in the main reception and they do two sittings one at 6/30 and one at 8/15 - No a la carte, they just bring you meats or Fish depending on the evening. A welcome break from the main buffet restaurant. The food was excellent, could not fault this however again disappointed by the lack of 'kids' buffet which was advertised. Note the restaurants are not open for breakfast till 10.30 as advertised, to avoid disappointment go well before 10 as it gets really busy. Staff Some of the cleaning and maintenance staff could do with a few lessons in friendlyness and how to deal with children as on a number of occasions they just shouted at some of the kids on the resort. Not acceptable! Sauna/ Spa / Toilets This area is really run down and treatments overpriced for what you receive. The Jacuzzi/ Sauna/ Steam room is only available if you reserve them and most days this was full even when requesting when just opened. The bathrooms where more often quite dirty, especially in the hotel lobby area. 3 Toilets seems quite inadequate for the size of the resort/ bar area! Swimming pool area There are 3 swimming pools of which one indoors. Sadly the indoor one was closed for the duration. The larger of the pools water was very cold, the sea felt warmer! The sun loungers does not have the usual towel rush reservation by over eager tourist ( only some despite big sign stating not allowed) however you would be lucky to get one that is not broken. The beach is a 10 min walk down a set of steps which was very manageable. The beach was clean and even when raining was a nice area to be. Note there are no facilities near ( toilet, shop) so if you plan on spending the day there take drinks/food with you. There are sun loungers available but as with the pool a lot of those are broken. Beach Towels are only available by paying a cash deposit of £10 per towel. You are charged £1.50 per towel if you wish to change these and again only cash payable Location The resort is in the middle of nowhere and no walkable distance to other shops/restaurants. Not an issue for us but good to be prepared. There is a daily shuttle to close by towns for a very reasonable £1 pp however these get booked quickly so best to plan ahead. All in all we did enjoy our time but just would have been made a lot nicer had we known some of the above so I hope this helps anyone booking. We had a feeling that due to the end of season and rise in energy prices a lot was shut or cancelled which we do appreciate but then the hotel prices should reflect this or notice be given to your guest. Hopefully end of season means some investment in the maintenance of the hotel and rooms.
First family holiday
We have just returned from a week stay at this holiday as our first family holiday! On first arrival, the place is friendly and welcoming.. we arrived at 11:30am, although our rooms were ready we couldn’t get there as the buggy that takes you to your rooms the driver was on break, so we were sent for our lunch. The food here is nice and there’s lots of options, although by the end of our holiday it was kind of repetitive… the restaurant is clean and well done, there is two main pools, although there is a baby pool but the main main pool is the area we most used, most of the sunbeds are broken and need fixing but if you get up and secure one early you won’t have an issue having a dodgy one, the rooms are clean and well maintained I’d say, although they could do with a slight tweak of upgrade too them, the downside to our room was that the balcony was TINY, me and my partner struggled to relax out on it in the night after our kids went to sleep… we were in room AB202 so our room was on the other side of the complex which I will say was an utter nightmare with a toddler and baby everyday, having to cross a main road and then do a 10/15 minute walk to the pool / restaurant, also the pathway of this walk needs doing ASAP it is an utter danger hazard, my child could of easily tripped and hurt herself, never mind someone unstable walking… maybe when this place closes from the 6th November to March this is something they can focus on because it is a MUST. The entertainment reps are amazing, they have such energy and are on the go from the morning to night time, there’s lots of stuff to do like archery, darts, cocktail game etc etc. This was a lovely place to go for a first family holiday.
A lovely 1 week away
For context, myself and my friend (both 25 year old females) returned from this resort a couple of days ago. We were there for 1 week all inclusive. Resort: multiple apartment complexes, 2 pools, 2 restaurants spread over a huge resort. Buggy service is available to take you around with your suitcases. For the first few days it was a nightmare to navigate around but soon got used to it! Lots of activities to enjoy, archery, wellness spa (I had a great sports massage), yoga, gym, tennis, cycling, beach etc. I would say this resort is more for active people that like walking and getting out and about. Check in: Friendly, arrived early but there was a luggage hold area and you are free to use facilities in the resort while waiting. The room: Clean, fairly modern. Unfortunately our shower pressure was poor at the best of times and was either too hot or too cold. The beds were too hard for us but not awful. Good aircon. There was an outside balcony which was an unexpected nice touch. The walls are very thin, you can hear other peoples TV's and playing any music was out of the question. Food: Lots of selection, meat, fish, veg, fruit, pizza, pasta, salad etc, We were impressed by the quality of what was provided. The only let down was dinner at The Grill restaurant (you have to book in the morning for dinner that evening) It's a set menu and what we had was dry, overcooked and not nice at all, we didn't visit there again. The location is pretty at sunset so it has so much potential. If you can, try to avoid peak lunch/dinner times, not only is it a massive que for food, you often find yourself navigating and barging through people that were just stood there doing nothing. With that being said, there were no issues ever finding somewhere to sit and eat. Drink: Different areas to help yourself to soft drinks, water, coffee, wine and beer on tap. Get a coffee from the machine on the left in the main restaurant. The other machines around the resort made the coffee too watery and not great at all. Alcoholic drinks served at the bars were decent and strong, Captain Morgans, Smirnoff etc. I'm used to many all inclusive resorts watering down alcohol but can say first hand that the alcohol they serve here is the proper stuff. Pools: Kids entertainment, pool activities etc is at the main pool. Me and my friend avoided this at all costs because it was loud and didn't interest us. We sunbathed at the second pool by the Grill restaurant (near the beach), as the resort is so extensive, you can use loungers on the grass, underneath trees, or pull your own lounger from somewhere. This was really nice. The pools are NOT heated, in fact they were freezing, as we visited in October we were not expecting summer heat anyway and it was actually quite refreshing to just jump straight in. Staff: No problems with any staff, all friendly and helpful. Andre in particular was such a laugh, he worked mainly at the bar of the second pool, very chatty and was always encouraging some drinks (who says no on holiday haha). Guests: While we were there it was mainly German, Dutch, French and other European tourists. We probably spoke to 2 or 3 other British groups of people the whole time we were there. No problem for us but is good to be aware of the fact that not everyone spoke good English and often dismissed you all together. Location: The resort is very rural, essentially somewhere between Albufiera and Vilamoura. There's nowhere walking distance if you want to leave the resort. You can get a bus from reception for 1euro each to either Albufeira or Vilamoura on alternate days. You must book this the day before and the journeys for both take around 20-30 minutes. Vilamoura Marina and Beach is lovely and good if you want a more upmarket, fancier place to visit. I would not personally recommend Albufeira, it's a pretty run down Brits abroad sort of vibe and was not our sort of thing at all. Annoyingly the buses leave the resort at either 9.30am or 11am, and return at 4pm or 7.30pm. Having an evening or night out is not really an option and if you miss the bus you'll have to pay about 30 euros to get back. Cost: Good value for money, flights, private transfer, all inclusive hotel stay amounted to £500 each, so overall, cannot complain at all. Overall: The resort is very family friendly, quiet, peaceful for the most part. Structured activities. The were LOTS of older people on the resort (50+) so if you're looking for some nightlife vibe that's not a cringe cabaret singer, then this place is not for you. Myself and my friend were outcasts in that sense but we definitely made the most of it regardless. If you want to go out, go to Vilamoura or head down to the beach that is part of the resort (you need your room key to access the gate down to the beach). I wouldn't mind staying at this resort again but I would probably return in peak summer months to see if there's a bit more going on.
