Fin ferie for to
De selger badesko i alle størrelser over alt i Rhodos. Her kan man ta offentlig buss inn til Rhodos by. 19 euro pr person (voksne) for spis-så-mye-du-vil-av-gresk-buffet.
Bra alternativ!
Middelklassehotell i rolig området rundt Iallyssos. Kort vei til stranden med gode bademuligheter. Savner flere restauranter i nærområdet.
Marvellous Matoula 🤍
We had a fantastic weeks’ holiday at Matoula Beach Hotel and wish we were still there! LOCATION: It’s down a quiet lane off the main road. Across the way is a water park and there are three small but well stocked supermarkets within a 5 minute walk. Kremasti Beach is also less than a 5 minute walk away. There is a bus stop at the top of the lane on the main road if you wish to explore further afield. We took the bus to Rhodes Old Town. The airport is a 15 minute journey by coach transfer. HOTEL: They have done a wonderful job of refurbing the building. It’s light and airy, feels modern but still retains its Greek charm. The lobby area is comfortably furnished, and there are a selection of books for you to borrow should you wish to. At the front of the hotel there is a seating area including a swing seat, plus a pool table and an air hockey table. The pool is a decent size. Not the largest but definitely not as small as some we saw and has a paddle pool for younger children. It is surrounded by decking, leading on to a grassy area where you can sunbathe. There are plenty of sun loungers available (a small number could do with being replaced) and some parasols. The bar next to the pool is well stocked, offering a selection of drinks including cocktails. The pool is roped off in the evenings from around 7pm. STAFF: Cannot be faulted - incredibly friendly, always smiling and bend over backwards to help you. We would particularly like to thank the restaurant and bar staff, and the chef who were so accommodating with our dietary requirements. ROOM: We stayed in room 308 which was on the top floor at the front of the hotel, overlooking one of the supermarkets and the water park. Beyond this we had a great view of the hills. Our room was extremely clean, spacious and the balcony was a good size too. Cleaners came and made our bed daily and regularly changed bedlinen and towels. The air conditioning was brilliant, in fact we had to turn it down sometimes as we got a little chilly! We had requested a double bed room but found that this was two twin beds pushed together, essentially the size of a super king. Still really comfy, just mind where the two mattresses meet in the middle! FOOD: We stayed half board so we had breakfast and evening meal. We are vegetarian and vegan and contacted the hotel prior to our stay to inform them of this. We got a speedy response to say not to worry and they would provide special meals for us. Honestly, we didn’t really expect that to happen, but we were so well catered for throughout our stay. We were provided with our own milk, breakfast cake, and dessert each day. There were always vegan/vegetarian options available on the menu and they really surpassed themselves on the Greek night where essentially our table was filled with food prepared just for us. The Baclava was our favourite! More generally, food was buffet style. Breakfast options comprised of fresh fruits, yoghurt, cheeses, cold meats, tomatoes, cucumber, cereals, breads, pastries, boiled and fried eggs, bacon, tomatoes, beans etc. Evening meals were varied. There was always fresh Greek salad, tatziki, spicy cheese, feta, usually rice and/or pasta, fries or potatoes and fruits/cakes/desserts. We genuinely loved the food! ENTERTAINMENT: Greek night on a Friday is included if you are half board and well worth the €20 if you are staying B&B. The band were super and got lots of guests up dancing or clapping along. BEACH: Just a heads up that the majority of the beaches on this side of the island are pebbly. For us not the most comfortable to sit/lie on so we only went once in the day time. Sunbeds are available for a fee (not sure how much as we didn’t use them) The sea was a bit choppy and because of the pebbles wasn’t the easiest to get in and out of. Water shoes are a good idea! That being said we were treated to the most beautiful sunsets every evening. Absolutely stunning! THINGS TO DO: Rhodes Old Town is definitely worth a visit! It’s a beautiful place and we managed to escape the crowds and explore the little side streets. We hired a scooter for a day via the hotel and this was by far one of the best things we did. €25 for 24 hours. We travelled approximately 50km and when we went to fill up the tank it only cost €2. We parked at the bottom of Filerimos and hiked up to the monastery and the cross at the top of the hill. We then rode to Kallithea Springs and snorkelled in the bay - as a first time snorkeller this was a real highlight for me. The water was crystal clear and we saw some beautiful fish! Entry is €4 pp and loungers for 2 people are €20 but you do get x2 soft drinks and x2 bottles of water included. Again through the hotel we took the boat trip to Lindos. It was a large vessel, capacity was around 240 people. We were lucky and were the first on there so got mattresses at the front of the boat. We were a rather disappointed to only get 15mins at Anthony Quinn Bay on the outbound journey rather than the promised 30mins. We had 3 hours in Lindos which we didn’t feel was long enough (although seems to be standard) as it was so busy. The acropolis was worth going to but be prepared to queue to get in. We also walked to St Pauls Bay and snorkelled there. We didn’t get to explore Lindos town itself anywhere near as much as we would have liked due to time restraints. Our swim at Tsambiki Bay was cancelled and instead we were taken off-shore of a nearby beach which again was disappointing. It might be worth doing some homework on boat trips before you go to find one a little better. All in all, you will not be disappointed with Matoula Beach. We would definitely recommend it to our friends and families and would have loved to have stayed longer!
A hidden gem
My wife and I have just returned from a week at Matoula Beach Hotel. The hotel was spotless and the staff were fantastic! Very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us! If you just want a quiet week away, it’s perfect, but if you want more to do of an evening, then the area is probably not for you. There are a couple of restaurants close by, all were fairly good, and there is a Chinese which was fabulous, but not many bars. If you want more night life, then jump on the bus / taxi to Rhodes town, which was very easy and reasonably priced. Beware, this hotel is on a flight path, but once you get used to it, it’s no big deal… We will definitely come back… 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
