Lettvint med all inclusive

Food was a let down

We went end of September/ beginning of October and honestly the rooms are amazing, the decor was literally to our taste and was very clean. When we checked in the receptionist must have cut us off so many times to answer the phone. What should have taken 5 minutes took 15! What let the holiday down was the food, we ate at all the Al a Carte’s and the only one that was half decent was the Italian, all the others tasted like all the meat was frozen! The buffet was average at least, choice of foods was very limited especially lunch and dinner. I think my child ate pasta for every meal as the meat was so tough for a 1 year old! We also wasn’t aware of the children’s disco until we left as it’s completely outside the front of the reception. The actual hotel would be a 5 but because the food was so average I cannot give it more than a 3!

I cannot tell a lie Nana ain’t a 5

Apologies, for this very in-depth review but I want to give a true representation of the hotel and wish I had this information before I booked as I would not have considered this hotel. Before I started my review I also took the time to read other reviews to see if my experience was just down to being spoilt in true 5* hotels some stayed in during covid in 2020. I have not used trip advisor for a long time but felt I needed to reactivate the account to review this hotel. I have noticed that most replies from the hotel “management” blame covid for lack of staff and use the same in personal copy and paste response with some attitude thrown in for good measure for any review that is not given 5/5. I have also noticed some very suspicious 5* reviews for this hotel or is it a case these reviewers have never been to a real 5* hotel. So, first off I’m going to address the already written covid reply that this will receive. Yes, the hotel is very understaffed but as I have said above having stayed in other hotels during covid, they didn’t have this problem. I think a lot to do with the lack of staff is poor management and captains (supervisors) who feel it is beyond them to help pick up the slack when food in heated containers need replenishing or dirty plates are stacking up. Helping would go along way. So on to the review Check in is by no means easy. You receive an email to check in on line and this is what I did. Great, I thought, that would save time, so off I go to reception to check in only to be told to go to the round table in the lobby for checkin forms. So I go to the table to pick up these checkin forms. After giving my name I was handed two forms one that I had already pre filled out online and the other asking the same questions I had already answered and are printed on the pre filled out forms. Once I filled these out again it’s back to the desk we go to start the long over complicated checkin process. This could easily be fixed with a sign explaining to use this table to collect forms. Having done research I knew we were going to be charged 4 euros a day per room on top of what was already paid, but this is normal is some countries. This does however need to be made clearer by TUI and by the email sent by the hotel as this could easily be missed and could cause guests some financial embarrassment. Transfer to the room was great and the man who did this was one of four staff who where friendly and welcoming. Rooms are nice and modern and the room we were in had a rain forest shower. The mini bar was a massive let down. It was only filled twice a week and with minimal choice 1 Pepsi, 1 fizzy lemon, 1 fizzy orange, 2 waters and one fizzy water. Luckily I did not have kids as with one of each drink choice chaos would have unfolded I am sure. In other mini bars in hotels I have stayed in they are filled daily and some even have beer and cider in them. Now I don’t really drink alcohol anymore but it’s always a nice touch for those who do. There is also no mention of room service. After a few days of cold blustery weather the sun came out, the temperature started to rise and the bathroom developed a terrible smell of sewage. Talking to other guests they too had this issue. After speaking to the TUI representative the reception called that evening and said we asked to move rooms, which we didn’t, and that we could see a different room and move the day before we leave, not much point moving I thought for one night so I declined. Much to the credit of the maintenance team they did arrive a few minutes after the call with reception and fixed the issue with the smell. Beds were changed once in the week, other places I’ve stayed this is more often but as it’s just me in the bed I’m not that worried. But for a 5* hotel this is unusual. Now I’m sure the response will be it’s more environmentally friendly to change them once a week and that is right. But the amount of water that is wasted in the mornings by the cleaners attempting to clean the areas around the pools was a joke. The hose is left on and freely moves unattended while they disappear for 20-30 minutes and were no where to be seen. Wet floor signs while this is taking place would also be useful. On to pools, the pools are nice but the adult pool is really small. Pools are cleaned daily, but it’s a shame the cleaners turn up and spray all the dirt that is around the pool into the water making them dirty again. When the cleaning takes place around the pool in the morning expect to get wet towels if you are not there, no regard is taken of guests towels as every day I would watch them spray beds with towels on, almost felt like it was done on purpose. It was like watching the chuckle brothers. The step down to the pool near the Poseidon restaurant needs warning tape. I saw so many people trip and one gentleman actually fell down. Cleaners and other staff were about and did not ask if he was okay or even care. In fact I believe I was the only person who asked him if he was alright. A small amount of grip tape would fix this issue. Food and restaurants As a very picky eater I did not use the al-cart restaurants as I did not want to waste food. So can’t comment on them. The buffet restaurants I did use. While the (main restaurant) is nice and modern the same can’t be said about the food or the service. The cooked choice was very limited and normally cold thankfully there is a microwave to fix that. The cooked food was normally swimming in oil and there was always something rehashed from the previous day. (Broccoli for breakfast) now the food wasn’t horrible it just felt like some of the meat was cheap quality as was very fatty. There was a very limited choice of vegetables. Every day the offering was chips and pasta, This is also the first hotel I have been to that didn’t have themed nights. During dinner don’t expect much service from the staff unless you drink wine, first meal I had there I was asked if I would like a drink. I asked for two coffee was told I had to get them myself, something I’ve never been told in an hotel. Breakfast was one of the better meals of the day good choice, but again rehashed food from the night before who has Broccoli for breakfast? A tip if you are an early riser like me wait till at least 7:15 as the restaurant is still not ready as food and plates still being brought out. Again don’t expect to be offered a drink as the staff are too busy talking or on their phones in the morning. I’ve also read that there was freshly cooked omelettes, I never saw these while I stayed in the hotel again maybe because I was in early but this shouldn’t be the case. A full choice should be available regardless of time. Lunch I tried the buffet restaurants and the Green and Grill, was a let down. I would not call this a grill as there was only really a very small choice of meat, and the rest was generally only salads, chips pasta and rehashed food from the night before along with average pizza. Ice cream and cake. One thing I did notice is that you often get pushed out of the way by the restaurant team when they were working but no sorry or excuse me. Always felt we were a hindrance to them. While the guests wear masks to get food the restaurant staff are never wearing theirs correctly some are under their chins and others under their noses Two staff who were very good in the restaurant are Alexia and Anna on the one occasion I saw each of them they were always working very hard. In fact I told Anna what an excellent job she was doing while others just walked past dirty plates she did not. I did try the various snack bars that are dotted around the complex, and the snacks are very good and there is a good choice. The girl who worked at the Poseidon snack bar was working very hard the week I was there and was doing an excellent job. She also made great waffles. Evenings and bars There is not a lot of space around the hotel to just sit and watch the world go by in the evenings. There is also no waiter/waitress service around the bars or lobby something you would expect in a 5* hotel. You have to go to the bar and queue for ages. Most people were asking for 5 or 6 drinks at a time. First evening in the hotel I waited in the queue at the bar to get two coffees. When I reached the bar I was told this was for drinks only “never knew coffee wasn’t a drink” and was pointed to another part of the bar. No signage to indicate this. All guests are important regardless of what they want and should be treated the same. There does seem to be more of a push towards guests who drink alcohol and at one point I even saw the staff letting the guests add there own amount of alcohol, not the behaviour expected of a hotel that classes it’s self as a 5* luxury hotel and spa. You will also not be able to get bottles of water from the bars, reading a reply from the hotel about this from another reviewer they say this is due to being environmentally friendly and you can buy bottled water from the shop. Why should we have to buy extra water this is meant to be an all inclusive hotel. Never had an issue at other hotels. I did not use the entertainment but while walking the grounds in the evening as there was nowhere to sit I did walk past the kids discos and this was very well done and there was plenty of live music as well. Check out again was a pain. Reception seemed to be more interested in guests of other nationalities as they were allowed to jump the queues. Would I recommend this hotel, no. While it is a very pretty hotel, the service and the food is a massive let down 3* at best and hotel should not be classed as a 5* hotel, it’s a 4* family hotel. I’m guessing the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels have a different opinion as to what passes as 5 star accommodation. I spoke to a family in the queue at the airport coming home and they were amazed. There were no problems with the quality of food, customer service or staffing levels at the hotel where they were staying.

PLEASANT HOTEL

Room excellent brilliant sea view, cleaning of room not a 5 star service, fridge only topped up once in 14 days. Good walk in shower. Food in main main restaurant average, highly recommend visit to the Poseidon restaurant Panos and his team excellent service and wonderful food. Other 3 restaurants were ok. Relax pool wasn't always relaxing due to children charging around, however there is a adult only pool if you want to sit by small pool. Not a five star hotel sometimes service was poor, possibly lacking staff, long waits for drinks and evenings very poor atmosphere, only beach bar had live music, annimation team not good didn't see anyone in the two weeks there until our last day, not one spoke to us. Beach very poor, small area for children, not good for swimming and saw one really bad accident on the rocks which are very slippery and not suitable for getting in and out of water. Overall we enjoyed ourselves met some lovely people, and some lovely staff and Covid face masks plentiful.

Very good resort

We stayed for a week in one of the refurbished seafront rooms (718). They've been refurbished to a high standard and are pretty big. The view from our balcony was fantastic and the shower was great too. No bath but that was fine for us. The only negative was the confusing lighting. Lots of switches for groups of lights in the room and it's very easy to switch off the bathroom light accidentally from the bed which isn't the best situation to be in! Food in the buffet restaurants was fairly good but could have been better. I know it's mass catering but the resort is advertised as 5 star so I was expecting a bit more. A lot of the meat dishes were very basic and could have been improved with a good sauce. Of the two buffet restaurants we much preferred the one by the beach, Thalassa. We did have one meal in an a la carte restaurant, the Poseidon, which was very good. Book quickly if you want to eat a la carte though as they do get booked up quickly. The staff were all friendly and helpful which obviously makes the holiday experience much more relaxing. The massage in the spa helped too. That was very nice. On the whole this is a good resort and we wouldn't hesitate to go back. It is very family orientated so it may not suit everyone but we still enjoyed our time there as a couple.

Pros and Cons, Honest Review

We are a couple travelling without children, and self professed ‘holiday snobs’ but also easily pleased. This hotel is nowhere near a 5 star, more like a 3 star in our opinion. Please take heed of the negative recent reviews as we think they are accurate after having visited. Do not go to this hotel unless you are happy to be around LOTS of pre-school children. We did not have one meal when there weren’t screaming kids, even in the a la carte restaurants. The hotel is massively under staffed in all areas. The staff work crazy hours to make up for this and are clearly in need of a break. A lot of the staff were friendly and went above and beyond and others were grumpy and uninterested (not that you could blame them). The hotel rooms are clean and comfortable. Housekeeping staff are spot on and came every day. There are no iron/board in the rooms but apparently you can borrow one from reception. We never bothered. The hair dryer was attached to the inside of a drawer in the bathroom, making it awkward to use. When we arrived the fridge was only stocked with one can of Pepsi and two bottles of water. Housekeeping left two bottles of water daily. A couple of beers would have been nice. The main buffet restaurant was a daily circus. The food was less than average (and we’re not picky eaters). Breakfast was the best meal of the day, but again there were queues for fresh omelettes and fried eggs as generally there was only one member of staff trying to do everything. The only decent lunch option was the salad bar. Dinner choices were even more random. We found the smaller buffet restaurant by the beach to make a bit more sense, but it was generally difficult to make a meal of anything, and we ended up with a plate of nonsense. The pool bar (near to the adult pool) does sandwiches, burgers and snacks most of the day. The one thing they do is amazing waffles with ice cream and chocolate sauce. Another minus point is that there is nowhere other than your sunbed to eat your lunch if you choose this option. The buffet restaurants and pool bars have self service wine and beer taps. The restaurants were rigorous with their times and started cleaning down even if diners were still choosing food. The a la carte restaurants were a nicer experience and the food here was better, but not excellent. They need to double front of house staff here as the wait was long. The staff are clearly overworked and tired which is too stressful for them and not a good experience for diners. They have two front of house staff serving around 100 diners. This is not a criticism of the staff it is a management issue. You can only book 2 a la cartes per week using the hotel App. We managed to do this without much fuss and tried all 4, but the first few days everything was full. One of the highlights of our holiday is eating in nice restaurants, yet here we found ourselves having to eat in the buffet for 10 nights. That was unacceptable to us, and we were unaware of this at the time of booking. On a couple of occasions we walked into Stalis to eat out, just to break up the monotony. There is very little in the way of evening entertainment, although the main lobby bar staff are a show in themselves and good fun. We found the drinks to be good. The local Mythos was good and the staff were happy to make drinks that weren’t on the menu (like margaritas). We mostly stayed around the adult pool. It was generally quiet and relaxing and there were enough sun beds and parasols. However, the toilet was blocked for most of our holiday and on one occasion it was overflowing to the outside areas. The soap dispenser never worked, whether full or not. There was no refreshments available here either but it is only a short walk to the nearest pool to use the toilet or get a drink. The pool did not appear to have been cleaned in the 2 weeks we were there, there was a build up of sand and bits on the bottom, but we rarely ventured in anyway as it was so cold. We highlighted these issues regularly to the staff member at the nearest pool with limited success. Again she worked crazy hours and every day that we were there. However, at the end of my tether I reported this to reception and maintenance arrived in force. The hotel really should think twice before allocating guests with toddlers ground floor rooms around the adult pool. There were regular screaming tantrums from a child being restricted to a terrace (and not allowed near the pool which was right outside their door) and frustrated parents having to go through this daily ritual. Also not relaxing for the adults pool guests. There is a small ‘man made’ beach at the hotel, popular with young families. Otherwise the sea front is rocky and can be accessed by steps. The spa is lovely, and we heard good reports from other guests. You are offered a 10% discount if you book a treatment within your first 48hours. I initially received a treatment that was not of my liking and I gave honest feedback. This was quickly rectified by the manager and I received another treatment free of charge. I had a lovely facial with Georgina. I joined in with yoga, pilates and stretching on a morning with a lovely young lady whose name escapes me. This is well worth doing. From what I saw the young energetic entertainments team never stop and do a great job. We really wanted to love this hotel, but I’m afraid it’s not for us and we won’t be returning. We understand the difficulties Covid has brought, including staffing issues, but the limited staff are doing their very best. In essence don’t call it a hotel 5 star when it isn’t. We had an enjoyable well needed break but we felt that we over paid for what we got.
