God beliggenhet, god service.
Best havutsikt, fikk havgløtt. Trange rom. Veldig tette balkonger, ingen privatliv ute. Lite variert mat til middagsbuffen. Veldig lite utvalg i all inclusiv i baren. Stranda m solsenger var delvis under vannflata.

Quiet resort, mixed feelings about hotel

The hotel is small, quite intimate and quiet. Guests are mainly middle aged and keep to themselves, this isn't a hotel for party goers. Sound proofing is average. There is some noise from the outside and from the bar, which is right next to the closests rooms. Free drinks end at 11PM and the bar closes around midnight to 1AM, though. Hotel wifi is quite unreliable (as described). There's a small road between the hotel and beach, but the traffic is minimal. The hotel is very clean. The staff is polite. Rooms are cleaned daily, sheets and towels are changed daily. Air conditioning works fine, but is a bit tricky to adjust to your liking, without waking up at 4AM frozen to a popsicle. The whole bathroom tends to get wet when taking a shower. We paid for a partial sea view and the view was great. Rooms cannot be darkened at nights. There are blackout shades, but inexplicably the room doors have large windows, through which the staircase lights beam through all night. The food in the hotel is fine but a bit samey from day to day, and also too generic, maybe due to the small size of the hotel. You get sufficiently fed, but All Inclusive here is not for people who expect variety, or Greek food. Dress code of long trousers is mentioned for gentlemen for dinner but it wasn't enforced. Guests seemed to dress up slightly for dinner but men mainly wore shorts. The hotel pool is very small (don't let the photos fool you). It is good for a quick dip but not for actual swimming. The pool bar is also very small and not very inviting. The pool area in general is quite cramped, there is barely room for the few sun chairs. Still, there were always free seats when we wanted them. The choice of drinks in the all inclusive is quite limited but sufficient for the occasional drink. The hotel beach is virtually nonexistent, it has apparently been washed away. There are also quite extensive hazardous rock formations at the spot, so even with the beach intact we would have preferred not to swim there. The guests are allowed to use the sunbeds of the 'sister' hotel Mare, about 100m west. We found free beds averagely well, but it wasn't the high season. Hotel bar there isn't available to Mare Boutique guests though, so if you want to enjoy free pool bar drinks on the beach, you have to commute between the hotels. We didn't bother. Another 100m to the west is a bigger beach without hazardous rocks. These beaches are not far way, but 20 metres from the hotel (as advertised in our case) is not true. What should be in all hotel descriptions of Georgioupolis is that the waters by the beach are constantly fed by little ice cold streams coming from the mountains. They look tiny but actually make the sea water by the shore quite cold (even in midsummer). Only when there are large waves the cold waters get mixed and disappear. So the choice is calm and coldish water, or warm waters but big waves. Beaches at Georgioupolis aren't for those who want to swim leisurely in warm sea. Georgioupolis in general is small and quite touristey, with a handful of restaurants and bars. Tourists are mainly middle-aged. This isn't a club town. On the other hand, the feeling is quite cosey and safe. Larger towns Hania and Rethymnon are close by, 45 and 30 minutes away. There is quite excellent and cheap bus service (new, air conditioned) between the two. Both have charming old towns and ports, historic sights, museums, and shopping opportunities. We didn't use a taxi, but I suppose they would have been quite affordable. Prices in general have risen sharply in a couple of years. We expected a 4 to 5 star stay but got between 3 to 4 stars.

Has some good but mostly bad points. Not for young couples.

The hotel itself is very clean. All staff at this hotel are friendly. The food was about a 5/10. Some variety available but as it is a buffet, most food has been sat there all day so tends to be chewy and overcooked. There are no labels on food to say what they are. One member of our party had allergies but staff were extremely unhelpful due to language barrier so she ended up just eating bread and fruit. We did end up eating out a few nights as the food got tedious and we dreading going seeing what was even available each day. The drinks at the bar are a 4/10. You are not allowed water or diet drinks on all inclusive. Water is only provided in the fridge in the room on the first night. The drinks at the bar are flat watered down cheap cola and lemonade. And only basic drinks included in all inclusive, not like displayed on social media. They say in the description that there is a spa, this is in the sister hotel but only when you get there you find out there is a massive charge to use it. This hotel only has 6 sun loungers… yes SIX. So good luck getting one. Their used to be sun loungers on the beach at the front of the hotel but the beach is now flooded. They say you can use the sister hotels sun loungers but there are about 40 sun loungers now for 2 full hotels of guests. So good luck finding one. They also say you can use the bar and facilities at the sister hotel but the staff at that hotel (mare blue suites) are horrible, rude and arrogant. One minute you can use the bar but cannot use the pool, then you can’t even step foot on site and escorted off the premises which was infuriating and embarrassing. The overall location of the hotel, it is on the beach front. But Georgioupoulis itself is quiet without much to do. The area is expensive for food and drinks, most places cocktails are €8 minimum and happy hour would be €7. There is very little entertainment on in the whole town. Wouldn’t recommend for young couples.

Peaceful stay.

I wanted to review our stay Mare Boutique as we had been worried before our stay that many of the existing reviews appeared highly suspicious in nature ( people who have reviewed all hotels owned by the group and no other reviews, overly superlative comments etc) which had left us feeling apprehensive. We in fact had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is well located- steps from the sea, and easy wandering distance to shops, bars and restaurants. It feels clean, modern and looked after. The shower was powerful, the air-conditioning was very effective, and the staff were without exception friendly and helpful. The hotel is adults only, and clientele were a mix of nationalities, enjoying quiet, calm and peaceful holidays. We were looking for a quiet base, nothing too fancy, and this place met out needs completely. We were all inclusive, but only intended to use this for breakfast, a few evening beers/wines and the odd meal- for this it was perfect. If you had high expectations of the type of large and really high spec luxury all inclusive hotels, you would be more disappointed. It's a small hotel,so the food choice is naturally smaller. The food wasn't the hotel's strongest point however! Where the hotel stuck to simpler, Greek food it did well ( always lots of Greek salad, bread, the occasional Greek pie, souvlaki and desert) where the hotel tried to cater to other nationalities it did less well ( schnitzel, pasta etc). The communal areas of the hotel are small, but we always found a seat around the bar/pool area, and you could take drinks from the bar back to your room/balcony. From the bar, the beer was very drinkable, as was the white wine. They had spirits and some cocktails available which we didn't try, as well as a range of soft drinks. The beach in front of the hotel is basically non existent, but you could either use loungers at the sister Mare Blue hotel, or find an area of unorganised beach/use loungers at a nearby beach bar if that is what you were looking for. The hotel had live music on one night, but no other entertainment. This was just what we wanted, but if you hoped for a 'lively' atmosphere and nightly entertainment, this wouldn't be for you. Overall, we had a great stay, and really enjoyed our stay at this little oasis of calm!
